8 years 6.75M per, lots of bonus signings (lock out protection), NMC first 4 years, NTC next 2 years, final 2 years no protection or limited NTC.

If Lou is able to pull of that contract, he deserves a statue on legends row. That basically means Marner will make around 6-6.5, meaning even if Matthews gets 11, all three are locked in for under 24 Million.

Nylander and Matthews have chemistry. Re-sign him to whatever it takes.

Trade the odd-man out (Marner) for a productive midcareer blueliner or a bluechip defensive prospect.

I think looks slightly worse due to playing with JVR and Bozak. Not bad players but combined they are bad defensively. Marner has to do too much.

I don't think it's a terrible contract for him to sign. Could he make *slightly* more on his next deal with a good year? Sure. Guaranteed money now though. I'd happily give Marner the same 6.75M x8 year deal and Matthews could come in around 9-11M

Marner's going to have an off year this year and his value will tank, Nylander is going to break out, especially with the way matthews + nylander where playing together in the preseason. It would be a dream to sign him to 6.5x8yrs

Reason #2

TML would be fortunate to get him at that AAV for 6 years, but it will never be that low for 8.[/QUOTE]
Will never happen.

I don't think 7 million is low for 8 years. If you think he's equal to Draisiatl then he gets more but if not around 7 is what it would be on a 8 year deal

It would be hard for Nylander to turn down $50 million guaranteed.

Look at what happened to Fabbri in his contract year. That injury is going to hurt his bottom line, imagine if it was a career ender.

Nylander better take whatever he can get as soon as he can. Flitty, soft players who can’t keep their head up never know when it’s gonna be night-night forever.

Impossible.

Nylander will turn 27 for the 2023-24 season.

He will have 7 accrued seasons by the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

So the first season he could have a NMC or NTC clause in his contract would be 2023-24...

It's sometimes useful to know your CBA...

I think the ship to sign Nylander to a cheap deal has sailed. If he's healthy, it is very hard to see him put up less than 75 points...he's going to get 7-7.5M minimum.

The plus side is that Marner is stuck with Bozak and JvR lol so we will definitely get a cheaper contract for him.

Overall, if we can sign Matthews, Nylander and Marner under 23-25M, I'll be very happy. I see Matthews making 10-10.5M, Nylander 7-7.5M and Marner around 6-7M.

Yeah no way we sign him for less than $7M. If the chemistry with Matthews continues to improve they are going to terrorize the league for years. Worth every penny if not more.

Marner is looking like #3 in the pecking order to this point but if he keeps improving he could very well be a $7M player also by the time his and Matthews' deals are due. I'm not on board with trading him for a defenseman unless it's a bonafide star prospect but let's face it those guys never get traded. I think we're in pretty good shape with guys like Liljegren coming up in a couple years anyway.

All told it may cost us $11M-$7M-$7M to keep them all. I can live with $25M for those three. By the time all of these deals kick in we'll have seen the cap rise a bit and contracts like Bozak and JVR could be gone. We've waited a long time to have a core of young stars this talented, pay the men!

I don't know, 25m is a lot of money for Superstar, A pornstar and a String bean.

Someone's still sour that their team took Virtanen...
I don’t think you know how to use an ellipsis. And among players I wish I had taken over Jake, don’t flatter yourself too much over Hayley’s little nugget. He’s not first in line.

Chicago is paying $21M for two guys, one of which *only* put up 58 points last year. All three of the Leafs in question surpassed that total as rookies. Makes the extra $4M not look so bad to me ;)

That said, the investment needs to pay off. If the Leafs are going to put the cart before the horse and pay these guys coming out of their ELC's it would be nice to see at least one Cup to show for it at the end of the day. I'm not going to expect Chicago or Pittsburgh levels of success, but I would love to see one, just ONE, and the pain of being a Leafs fan for the past 20 years will subside.

When Nylander comes in around 7, and marner similarly and Matthews around 10ish.. that's 25 for the big three which means 45m long term on the core. Matthews, Marner, Willy and Kadri up front. Rielly & Zaitsev on the back end and Andersen in net leaves ~35m salary cap pending to fill in around that.
I hope TML haters are ready for a solid half decade at minimum of sour grapes. There is definelty room to retain some quality depth players (Gardiner & JVR) while adding one more big piece.

I'd like to see the Leafs management to go 7 years on each Nylander and Marner and max 8 years for Matthews so that way you don't have multiple superstars coming up for FA at the same time.
