that point cant really be argued.
i was surprised calgary paid as much as they did for him.
They did because they knew the reason for Hamonics troubles, and they knew the Oilers would get him if they didnt.

Just because Hamonic was distracted doesnt mean he wont eventually get the situation worked out
those arent prime picks the flames gave up

they got a great player making peanuts for magic beans....Snow did well under duress , but its not like he had a choice, family comes first

The funny thing is, players’ values usually go down after a trade request, but it seems as though his trade request made his value go UP on this site, like the laughable proposals that were Edmonton’s 4th overall for him.

no it didnt
edmonton would have been better off doing that than trading Hall for Adam Larsson for instance

picture them now with Hamonic Hall McDavid and Draisaitl

Hamonic was exactly what they needed a defender who keeps things honest and who can handle the Malkins, Nash's and Parise's there's a reason they all respect him so much. as a Duck fan, merlin, read up on what Perry said about Hamonic.
they all said the same things. the ultimate respect from each one

Hamonic is just not a very good hockey player and never has been. Flames overpaid.

It's only an overpayment if we were to miss the playoffs. Otherwise it's a first round pick, and teams pay those for worse two month rentals at the deadline, and some other lesser picks I've already forgotten about.

Fact is

- Hamonic's salary is #5, maybe #4 money for the next three years. Cost-controlled with term
- Hamonic's offensive game is above average
- While Hamonic's analytics aren't anything to write home about, they're not Kris Russell bad either. They're basically Dion Phaneuf or Alec Martinez or prime Johnny Oduya type numbers, which you can live with from your #4 defenseman.

I'm not saying Hamonic is some amazing player either. In fact I think he's overall a drag on Brodie even compared to Michael Stone. But if we dropped him down to 3rd pair it would still be a solid and breatheable and movable contract. I also expect our penalty kill to improve as he gets more acclimated.

They should definitely not have done the Hall trade but acquiring a bottom pairing defenseman for their big defenseman acquisition would’ve been dumb as well.

The Islanders screwed them because a workman like Defender Like Hamonic would have been perfect but Smow wouldt go along they turned down Hall because he wouldnt fit in a Tavares led Locker room, he was too much of ME guy who marches to his own Drummer, and Tavares wouldnt have that. he wants team and family first players. Thats why Snow wanted the Draft pick, A rookie can be Molded and in most cases eased into a locker room, but when they cant, weve seen Snow get rid of them Like Neiderreiter and Reinhart.

Neiderreiter because of his agent filling his head with nonsense, and Reinhart for foolishly believing he didnt need to work on his skating, the Isles loved him when they drafted him, but when he repeatedly refused to work with coaches on his skating, even telling Snow and Im quoting here, " my damn skating is good enough" thats when they realized he really didnt want to be here. he wanted to be an Oiler all along. they just didnt know it.

what proved it was when Oiler player development guy Bob Green his former junior coach asked him, after the trade, to see a skating coach Reinhart said yes.......

its karma at its finest

This is a pretty decent post, but you lose me at the "Tavares wouldn't have wanted {Hall}" part. The captain has been a very good moderating force in that locker room; talk about ultimate respect of his peers around the league, both Travis and Johnny have that in spades.

Hamonic had several strong seasons before struggling last season. One bad season among 6-7.

I notice most of the criticism is coming from Calgary's rivals or teams that tried and failed to get Hamonic.
That last sentence sums up much of the junk on here. Fact is, he's new to the team so i'll reserve judgment on his play until the halfway mark. Second, in the last 4 years, when completely healthy, Travis has has a season any fan of any team would want from their #4 defenseman, which is what he's being paid as.

Travis is a good player, worth his money and doubly so come playoff time. That said, the Isles GM did well in the trade, given the assets received and the players we have on the doorstep. I'm thinking Toews, more than any of the guys we have playing from 4-8 right now.

Hamonic has been fine its partner Brodie that has been nothing but garbage all season. Flames fans have a tendency to blame other players for this though.

I have not heard or read that reason for rejecting the Hall for Hamonic+ offer from Chia.
Arthur Staple wrote on twitter that Snow rejected the offer because he had just let 3 very popular ufa forwards go (Martin/KO/Nielsen).Snow was reportedly worried that trading the popular Hamonic right after the other moves would lose the locker room.

Rejecting Hall for Hamonic+ is one of Snow's bigger screwup imo.

Other teams were pursuing Hamonic. Leafs were offering JVR. I am not 100% sure ,but there is a rumor about a Leaf 1st rounder.
JVR is said to have refused the isles extension offer and that ended those trade talks

Exactly, would you rather trade Hall for a defensive Dman or a late 1st and 2 2nds?

crew Hall has a league wide reputation for being a party boy, from the team christmas party where he got drunk and trashed the bar where there was $16,000 in Bar bills where the Police had to escort him home, to the time in Winnipeg where he was partying with 2underaged females in a local motel

Hall was a regular in many local hotspots in edmonton, he was actually banned from The Rack and Billiards Club. for groping female Patrons. JT sets the tone for us, trust me, you can bet your bottom dollar that JT warned Garth of that, and thats why that deal didnt happen... JT is extremely team oriented he saw that in Buffalo on his Uncles teams as a kid, its made a strong Impression on him

Hall was never coming here a quick google search will tell you why

You posted a video and tweet from a random man that you are 100% aware is not NHLer Taylor Hall in order to be funny. You’re weird as f***.

“1 retweet” surely you’re not that incompetent.

BT is given lots of credit for being a good GM but he overpaid here....so bad that it would become his signature deal if the Flames dont make the playoff this year

as for Hamonic. He has been garbage this year but no worse than Hamilton and Brodie so yes, the Flames have a systematic problem.
