I don't understand what you mean.

Here's Weber's Norris record from the OP:

Shea Weber

08-09: 4th
09-10: 7th
10-11: 2nd
11-12: 2nd
12-13: 8th
13-14: 3rd
14-15: 4th
15-16: 10th
16-17: 7th

I think his point is that anything below the top 5 or 6 is meaningless, because it is accomplished with only a small number of votes. In Weber's case, his 10th place finish in 15-16 was accomplished with his name on 9 of 150 ballots, and his 7th place finish in 16-17 was accomplished with his name on 45 of 167 ballots. I think one can argue either way about the significance of 15-16, but I think his 16-17 finish was definitely significant.

Yeah, I had mistakenly overlooked his 2016/17 season because of a quick but incomplete cut-and-paste job. His recent finish other than that was 10th.

Erik Karlsson is going to, barring major injuries, be at least a borderline top 10 defensemen of all time IMHO.

I got to see him live this past year for the first time in Pittsburgh and when you look at the massive improvements he made as a defender all around, and then incredible post season run he had (on literally one good foot), its hard to not envision him as an all time great when his career is all said and done.

Now, apparently he might miss the first month of the season which could derail yet another Norris run, but if there is one Dman who could miss 10-15 games and still contend for a major trophy it's EK.

I think the only thing that can really prevent him from reaching the heights I'm talking about is constant injury and being stuck on a marginal team which obviously hinders his postseason projections to one degree or another, although 2017 was proof just how dominant he is and why leaving him off top 3 Hart ballots is absurd given how much he drives his own team relative to his peers (dman or forward be damned).

It's so interesting seeing the dominant Dman per era (via the vote)....

Doug Harvey - Early 50's to the 60's
Pierre Pilote - 60's to the Late 60's
Bobby Orr - Late 60's to Mid-70's
Dennis Potvin - Mid 70's to Early 80's
Ray Bourque - Mid 80's to Late 90's
Nik Lidstrom - Late 90's to the early 10's

We can sort of see it's Karlsson's era now..

Always love checking this thread out... Thanks for the update.

Nik Lidstrom - Late 90's to the early 10's

Karlsson era seems to be from the early 10's to the late 10's... with 2 wins, and 2 seconds spanning 5-6 yrs.
Doughty and Burns with a win and 2 seconds each over the similar period of time.
That era transitioning via Hedman into the next one.

Quite the Swedish run... See what the likes of Makar, Heiskenen, Dahlin have in store, or the longevity Carlson can maintain...
