Williams is the perfect NHL project. It seems most people are underestimating how raw he is. He's putting up around a PPG game in the OHL as a defenseman, and that's as a relative fish out of water. It's hard to say whether the lightbulb will ever go off and he can put it all together mentally, but I'll bet a fair amount that with his skating, size, and shot he can have some sort of role in the NHL.

Think Patrice Brisebois inside of a tank. While the allure of a slick-passing, quick-footed blueliner who owns a booming, low slapper and has the physique of a brick wall is undeniable, the athleticism needed to play 40 minutes a game without breaking a sweat is a waste if that ice-time can't be played responsibly.

Didn't say he was, but it's not like anyone demopnstrably better was passed up was it?

Personally, I think Jamie McBain would've been a much better choice at that spot. Williams is a good risk but there are definitely others who I rank a fair bit higher that went right behind him.

Yea I was pretty high on McBain and hoping to steal him in one of the latter rounds. In fact I had my Simpson's McBain! Avatar all ready. Oh well, I'm hoping Williams actually puts an effort into learning the game, instead of just being content with his current development. If he realizes his weaknesses and actually does something about them.
