both leagues will get 1/3 of all revenue. OVG 1/3 NBA 1/3 NHL 1/3. Its already been confirmed that the NHL group already put $$$ into the arena.

OK. That's what I thought. I assume that, without NBA, it's a 2/3, 1/3 split, then. Although i have not seen anything like that.

And, saying that Bonderman and (.....heimer, I can't remember his name) have already put $$ into the arena confirms what I have been saying. The 'idea' may have been total spec. But, the carrying out was not going to require 600M on spec, with only concerts and conventions to pay the money back.

Good grief. The arena is going to be built on spec regardless if the NHL made its announcement last Thursdays or 4 years from now.

No no and no.

Sasquatchs is a weird species only found in rare northern parts of Canada. Sorry.

... ya, see, let me put you straight on this ps..... Sasquatch is in fact found well beyond the Pacific NW.... Bigfoot in California & Oregon.... Wendigo in central Canada, from Ontario-PQ-NB-Maritimes, parts of New England, Vermont... called the Grassman in Ohio.... Skunk Ape in Florida... Yowie in Australia.... Yeren in Jhina..... Yeti in the Himalayas... Almas in Mongolia and so on..... all the same.... everywhere.... inhabiting a labyrinth of underground tunnels & caves that were built by our Alien forefathers millions of years ago, bomb shelters to protect humanity from the first major galactic war that destroyed Outpost Mars & obliterated a Class M planet in our solar system between Mars & Jupiter killing hundreds of millions, the remains of which you primitives now call the Asteroid Belt...

These tunnels still maintained by Bigfoot, the various species and used as super-highways, inter-continental transportation corridors, and yes, so called Alien bases..... also..... Colorado gunna sue Seattle if they attempt to hijack their shoulder patches so that names out. Im guessing they think they have it covered with trademark, copyright protection... have a claim on Bigfoot given that Denver International Airport was built on top of one of the main entrances, portals to the society that lives underfoot. Oh, they think theyve covered it up, nothing to see here....Dead giveaway at Denver International everything from the absolutely bizarre artwork throughout the complex to elevators that go down over a half a mile. Made the mistake of getting on one once... was loaded at the time but still. :scared:

They may have no say where the league expands to but they also represent the players and look out for their best interests.

I don't think I need to explain how spending your whole life in Texas and then moving to Wisconsin is different than spending your whole life in Texas and then moving across the world to England.

Yea the visa issue exists in the other 3 leagues.... but statistically NFL players are arrested the most.

They can look out of the players best interest. A primary interest is ensuring the cap rises based on expanded revenues, which a London-based team would help generate. Players would make the sacrifice to go overseas if it meant an NFL pay check. People do this every day in their profession.

Concur about the NFL having the most arrests, it might be a motivation to actually start policing the players better.

The NHL trademarked it in Canada, Its been trademarked in the United States by Paul Kim

Its still unknown why NHL trademarked it in canada, If the league is being safe in case it may be picked or thats what the team will be called. I'm sure Paul Kim would be fine transfer it to the team if thats what the team goes with.

We are going to wait and find out.

I would pay good money to see this as the background for an X-Files style conspiracy show.

Yeah, Kim said that if they wanted to name the team the Metropolitans, use the logo and colors and branding, he'd be 100% for it and "I'm a very reasonable guy" when it came to a deal.

News items today courtesy of Chris Daniels:

Arena-related item, Oak View just hired a new Director of Operations for the new arena redevelopment. Comes from Target Center in Minneapolis.

Also, more off-topic, but news concerning Everett's arena:

As noted, the Indian tribal casino that signed the naming rights deal is tied to the Stillaguamish Tribe. It's off the beaten path a bit, off I-5 north of Everett about 20 miles or so. They do a lot of advertising on local media here but are not as big a name as some of the other local casinos. Not sure how the NHL would view it, but I'd suggest Oak View, if they want to get some nice sponsorship coin going, should attempt to do deals with any of the following tribes: Puyallup (Emerald Queen), Snoqualmie (Snoqualmie Casino), Muckleshoot (Muckleshoot Casino) or Tulalip (Tulalip/Quil Ceda Casinos).

Talk about an original name. A bit too long though.

Has that stopped teams in the past? See: Pittsburgh Penguins.

Then there's the relocation oddities like the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, and Calgary Flames.

The Flames are such an oddity. I mean, it’s a great name... but I never fully understand why you would name a team after what has to be the worst moment in your city’s history (Atlanta being burned to the ground by the Union army).

Bass players. Let me also help you out on that one.... The burning of Atlanta by Shermans troops was a devastating event & blow to the South leaving deep psychic scars that echo to this day. And following the trope that the South Shall Rise the city re-built, reinvented itself, Atlanta rising from the ashes & becoming a World Class City, some very serious corporate & media heft, beyond even the Jewel it once was, a lesson that speaks to the character & resiliency of its people.

By the 1960's, a hundred years after its complete & utter ruination Atlanta was taking its rightful place once again amongst not just the United States but the worlds major cities in terms of importance including architecture & culture, a time of reflection & celebration of all they'd accomplished a century after the "flames" destroyed the city. Articles, books being published, museum & gallery displays etc commemorating how far they'd come. It was a "thing". Centennial. A major sculpture commissioned (Italy) called From the Ashes - The Phoenix installed in a park & so on.

It was during this period of course that Atlanta joined the NHL, and so picking up on the waves of civic & southern pride they adopted the name Flames, evocative of the Civil War, speaking to issues of fight, resiliency, worked extremely well on a whole bunch of levels..... For Calgary, no, not so much, and to this day I dont like the fact that when Carpetbagger Nelson Skalbania & his Cowtowners were permitted to purchase & move that club to Alberta that they didnt drop that handle, which is completely irrelevant & in no way evocative of the City of Calgary, its people & history, culture.

I dont mind meteorological or climactic names (natural or man made disasters) attached to teams when they make sense as are the cases with North Carolina & Tampa (Hurricanes, Lightning most excellent, Avalanche not so much) but Flames?..... I mean, come. ON. That only worked for Atlanta. Miami Heat? That works. But Flames?, seriously?.... thats just weak & Calgary deserved way better, deserves way better. "Cowboys" or some such absolutely ideal.

Next?

it's quite obvious that Calgary should have renamed them....The Chinooks

Trade Fire for Wind. The Greeks with their 4 elementals would be totally in favor......

Name is already taken its a rugby team

Thats too bad because I like that name, SeaWolves..... also like SeaFleas.... Both speaking to Seattles rich maritime, shipping & boating/powerboat racing history, popularity, Seafair etc. But then Im a boater myself (or was) so some bias there perhaps. Seattles' always done a great job of it in naming their clubs, SeaHawks, Mariners, Totems etc so my guess, a "name the team contest" and lots to choose from. So long as they dont land on something like "Volcano's" or "Earthquakes".... "Tsunami's" or some such idiocy no problem.
