Blues-Predators scored a 0.7 rating and 966,000 viewers on Sunday’s NHL Game of the Week on NBC, up a tick in ratings and 14% in viewership from last year (Bruins-Stars: 0.6, 848K) but down 13% and 22% respectively from 2016 (Capitals-Blackhawks: 0.8, 1.2M). All three NHL games on NBC during the Olympics posted a double-digit increase in ratings and viewership.
In other action, Blues-Wild drew 266,000 on NBCSN Tuesday night (+90%) and the Kings-Golden Knights nightcap had 231,000. Monday’s Flyers-Canadiens viewership was not immediately available.

Saturday’s Maple Leafs-Capitals NHL Stadium Series game had a 0.7 rating and 1.11 million viewers on NBC, down 36% in ratings and 42% in viewership from last year (Flyers-Penguins: 1.1, 1.9M) and down 30% and 35% respectively from 2016 (Red Wings-Avalanche: 1.0, 1.7M).

Washington’s win, which was bumped to NBCSN in the final minutes to accommodate NBC’s Saturday Night Live, ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched primetime NHL game ever on broadcast television.

Ratings and viewership were also the second-lowest ever for an NHL outdoor game on broadcast television. The 2017 Centennial Classic — Red Wings-Maple Leafs opposite a full slate of NFL games — ranks dead last (0.6, 1.08M).

NHL needs way better marketing. They also need to cut a TV Deal with more than 1 network. Like NBA/NFL/MLB has.

But regardless, the Playoffs this year should bring in better numbers. There's a few more bigger market teams and less Canadian teams this year compared to last in the playoffs.

Boston
Pittsburgh
Philadephia
Washington
Minnesota
LA?
Dallas?

Tampa Bay
Anaheim
SJ
Vegas
Nashville
NJ
Columbus

The bottom half teams should be able to generate some noise. The NHL will surely miss Chicago in the playoffs this year though

No Blackhawks, no Rangers = bad ratings. Only Bruins and Flyers are good news for NHL.

MLS ratings are still bad.

ESPN’s first Major League Soccer match of the season, Sounders-LAFC last Sunday, had a 0.29 rating and 456,000 viewers — up 16% in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (Orlando City-NYC FC: 0.25, 411K) and up 32% and 26% respectively from 2016 (Timbers-Crew: 0.22, 362K). It was the most-watched MLS opener on the ESPN family of networks since 2015 (Orlando City-NYC FC: 539K).
In primetime on FS1, Sporting KC-NYC FC had 168,000 (-55%) and Galaxy-Timbers 180,000. Figures for Univision’s opening match on Saturday were not immediately available.

Ratings were down for the Stadium Series.

"Saturday’s Maple Leafs-Capitals NHL Stadium Series game had a 0.7 rating and 1.11 million viewers on NBC, down 36% in ratings and 42% in viewership from last year (Flyers-Penguins: 1.1, 1.9M) and down 30% and 35% respectively from 2016 (Red Wings-Avalanche: 1.0, 1.7M)."

"Washington’s win, which was bumped to NBCSN in the final minutes to accommodate NBC’s Saturday Night Live, ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched primetime NHL game ever on broadcast television. The previous lows were a 0.8 and 1.4 million for a Rangers-Flyers indoor game in 2015."

Left this out the MLS game got ok ratings, but the game had a greater after affect which is just as important or better than getting a solid 1.2 million viewers, but no one outside of those markets and diehards talk about it on social media. After all that's what leagues like NHL and MLS want, to be relevant in the greater American conversation. If you check out YouTube condensed game highlights have been viewed and rewatched by tens of millions. LAFC happens to have a local TV deal with Youtube MLS also has a 3 yr streaming deal with Twitter. Fox was gushing about the numbers so as long as MLS TV deals/sponsorship money keep rolling in and continue to quadruple they'll be just fine. Included a small video about whats going on in soccer in the US it's starting to permeate. These regular season TV ratings bounce around 200-550k with a few bigger games around 1 mil. MLS Cup gets 2-3 million viewers not Stanley Cup numbers but its growth.

Predators TV ratings:

"Since their Stanley Cup run last season and throughout their continued success this season, however, the ratings have soared.
Local ratings through the first 57 games televised on FOX Sports Tennessee through March 4 averaged a 2.0, said FOX senior manager of communications and social media Eric Welch.
That is a whopping 150 percent increase over the same number of games during the 2016-17 season."
