NBC on Friday afternoon drew a 0.9 overnight rating for the Bruins' 4-3 win over the Penguins in the network's annual Black Friday game. That number is down slightly from a 1.0 in '16 for Rangers-Flyers. Two years ago on Black Friday, NBC drew a 1.1 overnight for the Rangers-Bruins

As Winter Classic nears, how much have Sabres' struggles affected TV ratings?

Considering they are in second-to-last place in the entire National Hockey League, the Buffalo Sabres might have been expected to have a huge drop in TV ratings this season.

But the ratings decline isn't as big as you might expect.

Before the Sabres' 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders Wednesday, they averaged a 5.5 rating on MSG and NBCSN this season, compared to a 6.2 at this point last season.

That's a decline of more than 10 percent for what it is annually one of the highest-rated markets in the NHL. But it could have been a lot worse considering they are the lowest-scoring team in the league and many of their games have been pretty dull.

Sabres lose much of local audience from 2008 Winter Classic

Monday's game from Citi Field in the borough of Queens in New York City had a preliminary 12.4 rating on WGRZ-TV (Channel 2), the local NBC affiliate, during game action.

...the Sabres' shootout loss to Pittsburgh in the 2008 game had a 38.2 rating.

Probably not the best topic to post this, but I found an article (in French) about a Gullup poll about most watched sports in America.

Football is still first with 37% of people stating it is their favorite sport to enjoy on TV (a 2% drop from previous poll)
Basketball is 2nd with 11% of people (a 1% drop from previous poll)
Baseball is 3rd with a history low 9% of people (5% drop compared to last poll)
Soccer is now 4th with 7% of answers
Hockey is 5th with only 4% of answers (history high was 6%)

There is also the original Gallup link but it lacks hockey numbers : Football Still Americans' Favorite Sport to Watch

Interesting thing to note is that 15% of people say they do not have a ''favorite'' sport, a number that went up from 8%.

I've stopped watching hockey after literally having my day revolved around when the rangers play due to the sport turning into figure skating. I think the drop in fighting and guys actually hating each other is killing the sport. I can't tell you how many people I know who simply don't watch the sport anymore because of it

I've stopped watching hockey after literally having my day revolved around when the rangers play due to the sport turning into figure skating. I think the drop in fighting and guys actually hating each other is killing the sport. I can't tell you how many people I know who simply don't watch the sport anymore because of it

The ratings have been growing since the 2012-13 season, you're just an enigma.
