This is not new news. This was known months ago.

2k has the rights to games that are not simulation based. EA retains the rights to all simulation based games.

Yeah, the Madden monopoly was recently extended to at least 2025 IIRC

the funny thing is ... ea shown historically very little simulation in their sports games, so whatever football game 2k comes up with, its going to rival ea by default. it would not surprise me if this is just a sneak attempt to gain some new material/engine for madden.
