I am in support of having JR inducted to the HHOF.

He's famous and an iconic American player. He had a nice high peak and a lengthy prime. His career totals are good enough to justify his induction.

The way the Hall is trending, he is bound to get in. I say next year is the year.

Famous How ???

Martin Brodeur is a lock, I think Alfie gets in after a one year wait, I'm not 100% sold that Martin St. Louis will be a first ballot guy (my gut says he will wait a year). After that its wide open to nominate someone who has had to wait a while/ borderline (Roenick, Joseph, Barrasso, John LeClair, European great, etc.). I think Theo Fleury needs a few more years before he will get in unfortunately. Too much heat from his playing days, his book, etc. I'm almost positive a female player will be inducted. Nobody has mentioned Cassie Campbell yet.

There's a whole list of women who deserve to be in the Hall but are being kept out either due to ignorance or sexism. It's annoying that there's a 2 limit cap on women hockey players and even then the Hall won't induct more than one a year. Happy for Danielle Goyette but she should have been joined by one of Jenny Potter, Jayna Hefford, Chanda Gunn, Hong Guo, Jennifer Botterill, etc.

Here's hoping the voters in charge of inducting players get their heads out of a certain area.

Since neither Alfie or MSL would make the HHOF on the basis of their 8th best season and beyond, what they did during these is more than just irrelevant.

Ok, fair enough.

St. Louis played 15 full seasons, 14 those overlapped with Alfredsson.
Here are the raw point per game totals from those 14 seasons (sorted from best to worst):

Brodeur is obviously a lock. Alfredsson and St. Louis should also get in, though not necessarily right now. As pointed out, J.C. Tremblay remains a historic omission. And of course there is still a boatload of European greats to be inducted: Anatoly Firsov, Boris Mikhaylov, Vladimír Martinec etc. I'm not qualified to talk about women's hockey.

Some of the recently released archival data may tilt things in favour of J. C. Tremblay.

Of the retired and 200+ games-played crowd, it looks like the highest goals-per-game and not in the Hall of Fame are:
0.56 Tim Kerr
0.56 Rick Martin
0.51 Ilya Kovalchuk

Points-per-game
1.24 Kent Nilsson
1.09 Real Cloutier (only 6 NHL seasons)
1.07 Bernie Nicholls
1.07 Mike Rogers
1.04 Alex Mogilny
1.04 Zigmund Palffy

The 500+ goal scorers not in the Hall were already listed, above, and just boiling under 500 and not in are:
485 Brian Bellows
475 Bernie Nicholls
473 Alex Mogilny

(I'm not saying any of these should be in, but just for interest's sake...)

St.Louis is easily above Alfredsson -- there shouldn't be any debate there. In addition to Marty's larger haul of hardware (and a Stanley Cup... for which I still think he might've won the Conn Smythe), they were both equally 'franchise'-type players, both respected around the League, possibly St.Louis even more so than Alfie.

Richards deserved the Smythe that year. He scored numerous important goals and his performance became stronger and stronger as the playoffs progressed.

St. Louis played a key role in the Cup win as well obviously.

Isn't it about time for Fleury to get in? Totally agree on Brodeur and St. Louis of course. You know, I never get sick of mentioning this but in 2007 I remember when St. Louis was having a good year and I called him a future HHOFer. Yeah, I got roasted, but I saw it coming and assumed others did too.

But back to Fleury. We just had to witness Andreychuk get a plaque. That was painful but can we at least start inducting the guys who were literally good enough players to start with? Fleury isn't a lock cinch, but I'd have him in my HHOF.

Can we stop with the Lorne Chabot thing? He has no case whatsoever.

I never understood it myself to be honest. Not a whole lot different than Dave Kerr from more or less the same era. I guess Chabot having a couple of Cups helps, and 201 wins isn't bad either. I would say that if he retired as the all-time wins leader he might have a case, but he didn't. He was 4th when he retired in 1937 and when you take it in context it doesn't sound all that impressive. 1937 was pretty early in the NHL for the end of a career. In other words, being 4th was nothing special especially since it hadn't even stood the test of time yet.

Lorne Chabot had 72 shutouts and 2 Stanley Cups and he was on the cover of Time Magazine.

tbf, who back in 2007 could imagine this small 31 year old late bloomer playing eight more years, let alone finishing 1st, 2nd, 6th, 12th, 16th, 18th, and 19th in scoring in them? i was a big fan of his all the way back to his second year in tampa, and i can honestly say i would have vehemently doubted it.

If your point is that Alfredsson's case might be considered better than St-Louis on a faulty basis, I concede.

I think both should go in this year, especially if they go with 4 inductees. Even with 3, actually (though Alfie vs. Fleury would be a tough call; Fleury has been waiting for a while, and, well... let's just say his case isn't as bad as it once was)

He was having a good year in 2007. He already had a Hart, Art Ross, Cup, World Cup and looked to me like he was the classic late bloomer. I thought he was a player who was going to age well, and he did. I don't think anyone believes he should be kept out today, do they? Serious question, because maybe someone does.
