Go take a peak at the main board.

I hear enough from some of you to know to NEVER venture to the main boards. I assume it’s like the 4-5 people on our board that constantly look to troll people but instead it’s fans from every team doing this. Just sounds like a cluster F to me.

League still stinks in this call.

The league opened up such a can of worms when they made it reviewable. With goalie interference and offsides. The grey area is so damn large with both of these calls it was fine when it was just a quick decision by the ref on the ice and that was it. Now there is no consistency and breaths are being held at all times. I just hate the way it taints goals too. Yay big goal...ugh oh Ipads are out on the opposing bench. Put a pot on it's gonna be another 3 hr review. Who needs that?

The NHL has some kind of hypocritical nerve naming Marchand one of the stars of the week. **** that guy and this clownshoes league.

Absolute joke. They champion him at the All-Star Game after he should've been ineligible, and continue to name him a Star of the Week following his flying clothesline.

Piece of **** understates Marchand so much... there really aren't words for him.

Wonder what would happen if Marchand pulls something like that on Crosby in the playoffs? League office just implodes like one of those building demolitions.
god damnit why couldn't the habs not suck, i'd think it'd be more likely that he'd run Price, considering the rivalry. i would be intrigued to see what happens there.

maybe he'll concuss matthews and piss of the toronto media (obviously hopefully not)

Jacobs tucks in Bettman every night, that's why Marchand gets so much good publicity

I don't get the hate against Bettman (in general not just here). He doesn't make the rules, he's not the one who decides who and how much someone will get suspended, he's not the one who overturns goals - he's responsible for business side of hockey and not the sporting side and owners are his bosses so bark about them. :thumbu:

The hate against Bettman stems from the whole CBA "Spirit of the Rule" garbage that ended up punishing the Devils while letting teams like Chicago continue to get away with cap circumvention to this very day.

which is why i'm most definitely glad they're indirectly being chewed out for this interference/reffing inconsistency. what a joke.

That and just the general lockout culture of the NHL

we’ve had 3 lockouts under his watch more than any other sport. i’ll concede the full season lost was more bob goodenow and his terrible union leadership but it’s still a terrible track record for professional sports

owners are just as bad, definitely. he’s the figurehead though and he represents their views, but he’s in the position to present reasonable options or talk them down from the ledge to avoid the stoppages but it’s always strong arm tactics that take months of hockey away from the fans

on one hand, people don't acknowledge he's the business side, and everything he does is what's "best for business". but there seems to be some partiality on the "sport side" of the business, and sometimes that "best for business" stuff conflicts with the fan side of things (e.g. bettman 6, same teams doing winter classics), so the hate is totally unavoidable

I hated to defend Bettman in the paper I've done in my management class for business school, but the amount the sport has grown during his time there is rather impressive. The average annual salary for players when he started was somewhere around $300-400K, and is now in the millions.

In his 25 years as NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman has been the boss, the villain and many things in between | Toronto Star

This article puts everything into perspective. It's fun to hate him, but he's really done a lot for the sport's growth.
