Sal sounds way more like a coach should than MacLean ever did. Who knows what MacLean is like in the room though.

Yea that's why left it as an "if", at least have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was different behind closed doors, but even then I have my doubts . I'm just not sure he understands the deeper aspects as the game, or enough to translate them into words. Then you take into account how hodge podge and unprepared systems wise the team looked on the ice and I have further doubts. Then click, after a week or two of fine tuning under Lemaire, we started looking like the team we should have all along. Lemaire was great no question, but the roster was also always there with that team.

Even when he had his pre and post game pressers, he came across similarly as he did as an analyst, basic and nervous, "ya know". Especially as a coach, I understand giving a cliche, canned answer because a lot of these guys get the same questions or just don't want to give much information so they do it as respectfully and quick as they can. With MacLean though that wasn't the case when he was coaching here. He just seemed a bit in over his head and I think there was a reason Lou passed on him 3 or 4 times before finally giving him a shot and eventually canning him in short time.
