Speculation: New contracts of the Finnish wonderkids?

So, what kind of first contracts do the "golden generation" players from Finland get? There's been a lot of talk about Laine and it's been pretty much established here that he gets 8+ for 8 years, but what will Aho, Rantanen and Teräväinen get? They'll probably be locked up long term but at what cap hit?

Pulju, Lindell and Saros should be getting some 2-3 year bridge deals at this point. It would be stupid for them or the team to lock them up long term not knowing their initial effect in the league.

What kind of deals are these players getting this offseason or the next?

Laine 9-10Mx 8, could easily ask that.

Rants, 7.5Mx8, could easily ask that.

Aho, 6.8Mx8, could easily ask that.

Pulju gets signed next year, could be a completely different looking situation by then, so who knows now.

Haven’t watched the others enough to properly gauge their value outside of just the stat lines but I expect Laine to get something in the 8x9.5 range.

Lindell should be signed to a Slavin type contract except only 5 years. Such an underrated dman and is only 23 years old. He already got his 2-year bridge deal

I've had this conversation in my head about 8 times the past few weeks.

"Man I really hope Laine wins the Rocket. How SICK would that be?"

"Oh crap.....what do you pay a teenager who wins the Rocket?"

I'd like to see if Chevy can work his magic and sell Laine on the whole "take a bit of a cut to help the team become a perennial contender" thing.

8 X $9-$10 seems doable in my opinion.

Well I guess the equivalent of what Rick Nash got when he won the Rocket at 19.

You think Rantanan is worth $700k a year more than Aho?

Whether he's worth it or not long term isn't really that relevant. I think he (or rather his agent) will certainly ask for that (if not more) much more than Aho would get.

10th OA vs. 2nd round pick: Advantage Mikko (draft pedigree does count for something in 2nd contracts)
115 point in career vs. 106 points in career: Advantage Mikko
45 Goals in career vs. 49 goals in career: Advantage Aho
77 points this season (in 71 games) vs. 57 points (in 68 games): Big Advantage Mikko

I would guess for each at 8 years: Laine at $9M, Rantanen at $8M, and Aho at $6.5M. The gap between Laine and Rantanan is less than the gap between Rantanen and Aho.

I guess playing with the best player in the world this year doesn't matter?

I just think Aho has been comparable but with significantly less help.

At the end of the day it's the points that matter on the negotiations.

If Rants hits 85-90 he's in a rare class, u7M is about impossible. Where as with Aho's numbers it's realistic.

It matters, but not as much as point totals when it comes to contract negotiations.
