Philadelphia, PA.
Hey guys. I'm probably opening a door for some people to bash on my choices but I'm interested in hearing from the HF community how you guys think I did in my first sim league draft. These 8 rounds took a week to complete and we just finished yesterday. I bolded and put in red the picks that I had this year. I'm not an expert and most of my research was done via these forums as well as reading as much as I could over the net. I decided to go the risk route this year and selected guys who might not be the tallest, bit who put up some decent numbers and were considered underrated for other reasons as well. Let me know what you think of my draft and also any extra information on the guys I selected would be appreciated.

I made a write-up on my first 3 selections on our main site if you'd like to read it that explains the main reasons for me making those first 3 picks...

http://www.nefhl.com/news/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=306

I only did it on the first 3 because at that time I had already run out of picks until a trade was made a little later on where I acquired 3 more draft picks. Anyway, onto my selections...

Well... I don't think your picks were that good to be honest.:eek::eek::eek:i while very talented isn't a sure thing to develop and is a good canidate to stay overseas for his career. Most of the other guys are longshots or depth players.

But I have to ask, what is up with the picks in the whole draft? I was left scratching my head on more than a few.

You'd have to ask the other GM's that question. I can only speak for my own choices.

As I said for my choices I decided to take high risk players. I know they are longshots or depth players but if they even make the NHL I'll be happy. Remember, I didn't have a 1st round pick.

What am I missing?

The blues should have 9, 24, and 26.

You have them at 12 (from Buffalo), and then trading pick 27 to Montreal(but they don't have the 27th pick).

Care to ellaborate on this?

Wow... MacMillan fell far!

McMillan was actually the guy I wanted to take when I picked :eek::eek::eek:i at 37th. He would have been the "safer" option. I was just really intrigued by what I read about :eek::eek::eek:i's offensive potential. And in this forum in some poeples mock drafts they had him going in the first round. Really was just a risk pick like the rest of mine.

I will be making risky picks in my draft too. The other 29 GMs are as smart as me and will be doing the same.:biglaugh:

:) I will pick McMillan before I do :eek::eek::eek:i but why did Hamill fall out of the top 10?:)

Round 1

6. Canadiens, Alexei Cherepanov(07)

26. Canadiens (from Kings), Thomas Hickey(07)
27. Canadiens (from Blues), Oscar Moller(07)

102. Canadiens (from Sabres), Justin Falk(07)

216. Canadiens, Anton Glovatsky(07)

This is the wildest Canadiens draft scenario I've ever seen...

Alex Cherepanov - a hockey wunderkind
Oscar Moller - another high end prospect
Thomas Hickey - another small defenseman
Justin Falk - an 'Other Notable' WHL defensive prospect
Anton Glovatsky - another 'Other Notable' small Russian forward.

If this were to happen, I'd have absolutely NO problems at all.

Sweet. Montreal got Glovatsky. I've been hyping him for awhile and hoping he would come to Montreal in the 6th round.

for reference this is not a mock draft for the NHL, it's a fantasy hockey league with 30 guys drafting for their own teams - but players are rated based on NHL play.

I'm the Devils and took:

2. Devils (from Capitals), Patrick Kane
66. Devils (from Canadiens), Ted Ruth
77. Devils (from Penguins), Ben Ryan
110. Devils (from Oilers), Christian Engstrand
