Just out of curiousity,
how can you score three goals but not be rewarded a hat trick? Unless you're talking about natural hat tricks (3 straight goals).

I would assume it is 3 goals over 2 games... These stats aren't for just one game, they are for a week(end).

As TMHUNH mentioned, it's weekend stats, so most (sometimes all) of these teams will play two or more games over the course of a weekend.

Vlad: Thank you. Since I'm always following, watching, researching, etc. stuff on the NCAA in general (not just the NHL prospects) it actually takes me no time at all, I just dump the stats into a spreadsheet as they become available then post them here usually after the conclusion of the weekend games.

First of all, thanks for all your hard work. Much appreciated. Second, any insight on the Howard/Montoya tandem for the U.S. at the WJC's? Who has the leg up on the number 1 job? Personally, I think it will be Howard.

You're welcome.

In answer to your question, my guess is that Mike Eaves (Wisconsin and Team USA head coach) will likely go with Howard to begin with. He was at the WJCs last year so he's got the experience. Howard will have something to prove and will want to show that he's much better than the way he performed at last year's WJCs. Montoya should see some playing time, but I'm guessing more in a backup role, unless Howard has another bad outing. Howard was Team USA's starter in last year's WJCs (if memory serves me correct) and had such a bad outing that he was replaced by Providence's Bobby Goepfert, who fared much better.

Basically, the job is Howard's to lose.

Just my opinion.

Vanek is overrated

montreal said:
I saw it, it was a goal. Vanek carried it in, left/drop pass to Ballard, and it's in the net. UMinn was losing, then burst out and score 4 goals in no time. Damn they got some fire power. Vanek's the man, if you ask me.

Vanek reminds me of Brett Hull. With a weaker shot. With a poor work ethic. With less speed. Without one-timer ability. More selfish. With less passing ability. With no defensive ability. Other than that, I think they are equally good. Oh yeah, and without 700+ goals.

For those of you looking for stats for the....

Wisconsin/Minnesota State game tonight and can't find them, it's because the game was suspended due to a power outage at the Kohl Centre (Wisconsin) and will resume tomorrow night, just prior to the 2nd game of the weekend matchup. I did see the game (well until the power outage). You can checkout what happened HERE.

Fyi....

I'm gonna be gone from tomorrow (Dec. 21) thru Jan. 4th. So I'll update all the stats when I get back as well as have some (late) game notes over in the NCAA area about whichever Holiday tourneys I'll catch. I'm also hoping to catch some of the WJC if possible.

So before I forget....happy holidays everyone!
