Do you really think Price would come out and tell the journalists MB is doing bad moves XD

Not going to happen unless MB trades AG for a 4th round pick and doesn't resign Markov and Radu and then sit on his hands. Even then i'm not sure Price would complain.

Dude, he was asked specifically about Drouin. There was no necessity from his part to say we're making good moves when the only other move was the Beau trade.

So I guess all the concern about losing 2 players was a bit far fetched?

Now that Emelin is gone this move makes even more sense.

Would have lost Beau for nothing and been stuck with Emelins cap hit this year. Now habs have a 3rd round pick and 4.1 Mill in cap space.

depends on what the next moves are.

All we know for now is that we're in a much better position than we were before, both financially and in terms of assets, so let's be thankful that something good is happening and hope the trend continues. #bolieve

I feel the same, it needs to be looked upon as a whole. What's the gameplan and what exactly will the team look like by the time the UFA frenzy is done.

Summer Summary:

+ Drouin (5.5)
+ Jerabek (.925)
+ 2017 3rd

vs

-Sergachev(.894)
-Beaulieu (RFA guessing 2.0M)
-Emelin (4.1)

Salary looks pretty even in the end. Additions look better than our subtractions when you consider we were also guaranteed to lose an asset due to expansion

Time to:
+ Radulov
+ Markov
- King
- Flynn
- Nesterov
? Farnham

I think another way to look at this trade is that the Habs will probably lose the WASH 2nd 2018 to TB in the Sergachev deal because I doubt Sergachev plays 40 NHL games this year. If that is the case the pick (#68) will be similar to the pick the Habs lose next season for Drouin (a late 2nd probably). So the trade becomes (approx)

Sergachev & Beaulieu for Drouin & 6th 2018

Not a bad trade any way you slice it, but I do think the #68 pick will end up compensating for the loss of the 2nd for next year.

Completely invalid reasoning!

It's like saying that if you got a bargain on your car, it's ok to waste money at the casino because COMBINED you're still ok.

Well I think it's fantastic the Habs got pick #68. Let's see what Beaulieu signs for but I think #68 is a great return for Beaulieu.

NateTheIngrate got his qualifying offer.

The Sabres issued qualifying offers to six of their nine restricted free agents prior to Monday's deadline. They retained the rights to goaltender Robin Lehner ($3.15 million), forwards Marcus Foligno ($2.25 million), Zemgus Girgensons ($1.15 million), Johan Larsson ($997,500) and Evan Rodrigues ($787,500), and defenseman Nathan Beaulieu ($1 million).

Was looking at hockeydb, saw Beaulieu has 3 pts, WTF happened to him. I know the sabers suck much more then we do and I don't follow the NHL outside of the Habs but that seems crazy low point totals.

He's just not that good of a player...

He can skate pretty good, but that's about it.

Said it at the time of the trade, we'll look back and be thankful we got anything for him by the time we traded him.

I thought he'd be better than this. Three points in 20 games? They've finally limited his TOI to 7:46 on Dec. 2nd, only had 9 shifts.
