Interesting interview with Dmitri Efimov, head of MHL.

Key points

- 260 MHL alumni played in KHL last season
- MHL started with 22 clubs, now there is 70, including non-russian one
- Murmansk wants to create MHL team (IMO for MHL B)
- MHL A team costs 30-40 mil rubles/season, cca 575 000-767 000 €
- MHL B team costs 15-20 mil rubles/season, cca 287 000-383 000 €
- Russia has 450 hockey schools (kids hockey) - ideal plan would be to have the same amount of junior teams (divided into levels)
- Canada has 551 junior teams, USA has 614 junior teams
- Russia has 85 federal subjects and only 35 of them has a junior team in MHL (A or B)
- MHL wants to expand in Asia
- MHL´s long term goal is to divide major junior team into geo-division like in Canada. MHL needs more and quality teams to achieve it.
- MHL budget consists of 52% from KHL, 28% clubs fees, 20% sponsors.
- clubs fees: 900 000 rubles/17 000€ for MHL A, 450 000 rubles/8 600€ for MHL B

Red Army is truly an amazing organization, with the amount of players leaving for CHL/VHL/otherMHL/otherKHL/CSKA is astonishing, yet they still manage to show respectable results with 97/98 making up for a significant part of the roster. They have guys, who aren't even 16 on the roster!!!

The title is "АГЕНТСКИЙ КЛОНДАЙК" lol, I couldn't have written it better myself
yeah, would be great to interview Efimov or so, if they want to do something with leaving kids... decrease, stop numbers. It seems that better conditions for developing at home = more kids leaving

Its the grass is greener mentality fortified by the agents. We cant push mhl its almost never on tv, teams play in same cities as their parent clubs, same arenas. They barely have fans of their own, who are not parents or relatives.

it somewhat justifies big bodies flowing there, but i'll never understand what shrimps are thinking. everyone of them gets undrafted and returns looking like a poleno still every next one think he'll made it. that's beyond stupid. if abramov goes down that path that'll be a tragedy:(

It seems as though the kids themselves know almost nothing about what they are getting into, just that it will be a great adventure, and there will be a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. It almost never works out - in fact, it actually never works out!

One way to offer incentives to those who have ambitions to play on national teams is to make it known that in selecting players for the national team, if an MHL/VHL/KHL is relatively equal to a CHL player, the MHL player will receive preference in selection to the national team. That way, you are not depriving the national team of top-notch players from the CHL, simply limiting their presence to only the top players. At the same, incentives would ber offered to stay in Russia, entertain the local fans, and develop under the closer presence and guidance of national team coaches. After all, for those who want to make it big in the NHL, how many have done so without playing on a national team? None that I can think of.

I dont understand this. What is this "club fee"? Because you wrote, tha the budget is somewhere about 575 000-767 000 € for MHL. And 28 % from 500 000 isnt 17 000.

You mixed two things. MHL as league has a budget for its operating, which is not publicly known. Lets say MHL´s budget is X. 52% of this X sum are money from KHL as league. 28% of this X is from club fees and 20% from sponsors (Datsun, Pepsi etc).

If you want to have MHL A team, you need cca 575 000-767 000 €. This should be budget of Energie KV, Red Bull Salzburg, other MHL A clubs. It depends on travelling costs, if you (Energie) travel a lot, you need more money.

If you want to play MHL A, you have to pay club fee (900 000 rubles/17 000€) at the start of season. Club fee is štartovné, členské call it as you want.

They think that leaving MHL/B and playing in CHL will speeds the NHL participation for them...
Ironic that it does the exact opposite.
I saw many talended russian getting wasted and ruined in CHL examples Filatov, Yakupov, Grigorenko and many more.
Nobody waits in NHL for them Canada/USA has like 1000s like them waiting for a chance in NHL...

Smarter guys are Kuznetsov, Tarasenko they made no rush for NHL and slowly gaining the NHL experience now.
