Our mod team has taken it upon ourselves to educate our users on how the system works and what is and isn't acceptable conduct on the main boards since it is a bit different from HFOil. We also aim to share with you which actions you can take in the event that you feel that you are encountering people who are breaking site rules or who seem to be looking to stir the pot in multiple threads.

The main boards on HF are a different animal than HFOil as they are shared by every fan base. Rivalries will always be alive and well in sports so it is a certainty that you will encounter posters and posts that paint a negative portrait of our team, its players and every other team in the league for that matter. This is a part of what makes the mains the mains. Do not expect to have every fan base agreeing with the majority on our board in regards to our team and its players so be prepared to read lots of negative posts about our team and other teams.

1) First off, the best way to deal with a post that you feel breaks site rules is to report it. I know that it's tempting to reply in a similar tone but that could lead to you receiving a warning or an infraction. The report function is the red triangle on the bottom left of every post. Click it and then write a note to moderators letting them know why you reported the post. It will then be dealt with by the first available moderator.

2) Keep in mind that on HFOil this includes our local mod team as well as Global Moderators and Team Leaders who come from many different team boards. The fact of the matter is that there will be lapses at times depending on how many moderators are online so try and be patient as we all have lots on our plates outside of the site. This is amplified on the main boards as they have a lot more traffic than a board like ours which is already fairly busy.

3) Let's take a look at some HF Rules with some examples of what would be considered an infraction and what would be seen as an opinion.

1) Flaming: Do not post any messages that harass, insult (name calling), belittle, threaten or mock other members. Debates are fine, but critique the opinion, not the person. Personal attacks are not permitted. Do not call other posters trolls. Do not use sweeping generalizations and plural pronouns to cloak personal attacks. For example if a poster(s) states that he thinks 'x' is a good idea, replying that "Anyone who supports 'x' is an idiot" is a personal attack. Do not start threads to call out and embarrass other members; or make posts about ignore lists.
This rule is pretty self explanatory, keep the post on the topic at hand and not on the person/people that you are debating. Keep in mind that if you feel that someone is trolling that if you call them out on it instead of reporting the post then you are likely to receive an infraction regardless of what becomes of the other posters post. Another teams fan on the mains can criticize and speak poorly of your team, its players and management as long as it is not in an offensive or vulgar manner. It is however considered trolling if another teams fan does the same here on HFOil.
2) Trolling: Do not make posts or threads with the sole intent of starting a dispute. Please note that a person disagreeing with your opinion is NOT trolling. Please keep it civil even if you're sure the other person is wrong. When visiting the team forums, please note that these are fan forums for that team and are here mainly for the enjoyment of that team's fans. Do not visit team forums to cheer against nor demean their team. In other words, if you want to cheer for the Habs and criticize the Bruins, do it on the Habs board. And if someone is doing the opposite on the Bruins board, don't start flaming them to defend the honor of your team. Either ignore it or respectfully disagree and move on. Wishing illness or injury on someone will be regarded as trolling or offensive in most cases. We do not permit any forums to be used to demean/insult the fans of other teams. This is viewed as trolling/flaming. Copying posts from one HFBoard forum to another for this purpose is considered trolling/flaming as well.
This one is a little tougher as it is mostly subjective and not always so easy to pick up on. Posters may not state their point clearly, they may just come across poorly in an instance or two regardless of intent or you may read something into that post that many others don't see or disagree with. Our advice would be to report these types of posts and let the moderators take a closer look at them and sometimes this builds a track record of questionable posts. Even if infractions aren't handed out or posts aren't deleted, by reporting a post it gets moderators to look at things that they may not otherwise see since there are so many posts and threads on high traffic boards that there is no way possible to see every post in every thread.

A complete listing of HF's rules are here.

If any of you have any questions please send a PM to any of your local HFOil Mods: @Bryanbryoil , @Soli , @McDNicks17 , @s7ark , @Nunymare , @The Nuge

If any of you have any concerns you can send an email to http://hfboards.mandatory.com/index.php?misc/contact or to HFOil Mod Supervisor @spiny norman.

Just an add on. I know that there are a number of posters that prefer to PM complaints directly to HFOil Mods, however the preferred method is to use the report function on posts that you feel break the rules so that all Moderators on our forum get to see the complaint as well as the boards team leader. I know that this has been an extremely frustrating time for our team and our board so help us to make this a better board by allowing all of us to deal with HFOil matters, Bryan

Too much of this lately.

I have said in numerous threads to stop bringing up the same thing over and over to derail threads. This is not tolerated now and won't be in the future. Thread derailing and trolling infractions will be handed out as all that that talk is doing is derailing threads and rehashing old wounds. I realize that some of you may not have been here last year, decided not to speak out then, etc. but for the betterment of the board ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

I've updated the links to reflect the new links from the move. There has been a fair bit of complaining about moderation of late due to suspected returning posters, etc. If you have an issue with a post, report it. If you don't like how things are being handled, refer to the first post in this thread to contact HFOil Mods, the HFOil Mod supervisor @spiny norman or contact HF.

We are looking at a new season and it has been 3 years since the Reinhart trade, 2 since the Hall trade, and 1 since we proceeded to have a monumentally poor season following a fairly successful one. We need to start looking forward, I understand that people are less than thrilled about our GM, those trades, etc. However we don't need to hear about it in every damn thread. Things have been very lax this summer but just like the team is gearing up for the season, so too are the Mods. If you don't like a new signing or trade by all means say so WITHOUT bringing up past trades/signings. If things go sideways out of the gates we can have a Fire Chia or Todd thread but in the interim, it's a new season and let's sit back and watch how it unfolds. If you feel the need to continue to thread derail and be a broken record then at least you can't say you weren't warned when you start getting warning points/infractions and lose thread privilages.
