He really showed us a lot more in the playoffs. Glad he can learn from a role model like Marleau for years to come.

Even if he doesn't score 90 points, I'm think he will become responsible over all 200 feet and clutch...and that's really what matters in the playoffs.

This is the Stanley Cup Playoffs board for players/teams/issues relevant to the playoffs.

"Marner's breakout season in 2019?" thread goes to Leafs board.

"Matthews completely invisible" or "Leafs D are bottom 5" or "Ander6en cost Leafs the series" threads can stay here.

Marner definitely has the best offensive upside of the Leafs big 3, imo. He came a long way this season and he should be able to top his point totals from this year given Babcocks increased level of trust in him. 90 is unlikely next year, but possible. He will likely flirt with and surpass 90 at some point in his career. 75-85 seems well within his reach for next season, though.

All that said.... the Leafs ain't in the playoffs. This belongs on the NHL Discussion board.

Why is there a leafs thread in the playoff forum?

They blew a third period game 7 lead to Boston. Again.

The leafs are not in the playoffs.

Crazy isn't it, it's almost like not everyone has a melt down when they see a Leaf thread. I pity those poor saps. Weak willed and lacking imagination.

lmao, nice persecution complex..... what an embarrassment.

This thread belongs here about as much as it does in The Business of Hockey board, or the OHL board, or the Fantasy Hockey board (actually, this thread would fit there. Woops). Not only is it not discussing anything related to the playoffs, it's not even discussing something related to this current season. There is a board for that - the National Hockey League Discussion board. What would you think if someone made a thread on the playoff board talking about Jack Eichel or Connor McDavid? You'd have a measured and accepting response, I'm sure...

"Blew a third period lead" Oh please, there were like 5 lead changes in the game at that point, if you seriously think we blew the game you're a fool, game was still up for grabs by anybody. Also, as a Canucks fan you won't be seeing your team in the playoffs anytime soon so please get off your high horse.

Topic at hand, I can see Marner putting up at least 80 points next season if he continues to play the way he did in the 2nd half of the year and playoffs. 90 is a bit of a stretch. Sick player though, love him.

ROFL.

I get that it's in the wrong section. I was poking fun at a guy who complains about every Leaf thread that isn't on our own boards...so you see it is not a persecution complex when you point out a real thing, that's called reality.

In answer to your question. I would probably ignore it or contribute to it. I would not get worked up about where it is knowing the Mods will eventually move it.

Where a thread is could be the most trivial thing a person can complain about on HF.

I don’t have a pair of blue glasses. I knew my team was bottom 5 from the start of the year. You thought shrinking violet children and a piss poor d were gonna lead the leafs to a cup.

I mean, anything can happen in the playoffs. If you're in the playoffs in this day and age with all the parity in the NHL, you have a shot. The odds may be more against you the lower of a seed you are, but it can still happen. So what's wrong with thinking we had a chance? I'll take our core and chances of winning in the future over the Canucks' any day of the week as well regardless of who you pick in June.

The Canucks won’t win f*** all till after old hfboards member Sami Salo is gone to the big IR list in the sky.

I love how the 2015 redraft on here has Barzal going before Marner, after one rookie season.

That will be such a tasty thread to bump when Trotz and his system has him around 70 this year, and Mitch explodes for 90 (hoping)

Have to love the recency bias...

Agreed. I may be in the minority, but I also don’t think Provorov is as good as this board makes him out to be... it seems to me that Philly has a history of overrating their prospects...

I also agree with that.

I like that people continue to sleep on our guys. If it's a thread about D's, Reilly is trash, thread about C's, Matty is a #2 and overrated, JT will age badly, and Marner is only going to get worse lol

Never change HFboards.

Barzal 84 points (- Tavares on PP) = 70 points
Marner 69 points (+ Tavares ES + PP) = 90 points

How much is the actual player and how much of this is the Tavares factor related?

If you take away a superstar from one scenario and give him to another player you would have to think statistically that has to have a major impact.

meh at least Nylander is good and should be compensated very well (since he is in contract negotiations); after that Nylander opinions on the main board will do complete 180 and Willy will find company with the folks you mentioned

I see what you are saying

I honestly think Marner is better, straight up, but that's just an opinion.

I don't think Mitch needs JT to hit 90, I think the kid will dominate with whoever he plays with, and I can see Babs finally letting the training wheels off him.

Christ, people are saying Aho should be 5th and Marner 6th in that redraft...........:help::help::help::help::help::huh::huh::huh::huh:

I see what you are saying

I honestly think Marner is better, straight up, but that's just an opinion.

The players you play with have a direct impact on your points was my point.

Case in point take Mikko Rantanen drafted 10th overall in 2015 behind Marner at #4.

Rantanen 84 points in 81 games last year vs Marner 69 points in 82 games.

In a re-do draft would Mikko go before Mitch?.

However how much impact on Rantanen did Nathan Mac (97 points in 74 games) have on that outcome? Lots !!!

Now Marner gets Tavares to compare to Rantanen with MacKinnon so this might be a lot closer points wise to compare this year.

So the addition of JT as solidified Marner's draft position by increasing his point production potential to match players drafted after him. Even if Leafs simply switched Marner to Matthews wing as a regular the same point would hold true.
