This was clearly the biggest upset since the infamous Belarus - Sweden game. :yo:

I have watched the game, and you gotta give it to the Swiss team.
They are a TEAM, not a bunch of superstars hanging out in Italy.

A way to go guys!!!!!1

    P.S: I hope Russia doesn't meet them in quarter-finals

Enjoy it while you can. Swiss won't medal, and Canada will take the gold.

I don't understand this post. The Suisse totally got outplayed and rode their hot goalie and hung on for dear life. They couldn't skate with us nor could they generate any really quality chances.

You should worry more about meeting teams like Canada, Czech, USA, and Sweden in the medal round rather than the swiss.

Oh, I'm fine with it because we played a pretty solid game and generated the chances but Gerber was just outstanding. But I don't think it makes sense to say that the Suisse played a great game though.

I hope that Canada gets the bronze or less just because of cocky posts like these. Jeeze, and Canadian fans criticized US fans for being cocky at the WJCs because of their "all-star" team.

And now the opposite is happening.

Sore loser?I don't care how the Americans are doing,I think the olympics are pointless, but it's always nice to see the underdog win (and Canada lose)

Great..here comes more of the "what have you done for me lately" nonsense from HF's finest.

Canada lost..Gerber stole the game...it was a great win for the Swiss..but it was a round robin game...Canada will rebound and easily get into the medal round...that is when we can start comparing games to the greatest upsets of all time.

    How's America doing?

They tied a subpar international team with a hot goalie, managing to get 3 goals. That's better than a loss without a single goal.

Let's keep this thread on the Swiss victory - we have plenty of other threads to disuss the rest of the tournament!

Anyways, it is a great day for hockey! :handclap:

This will give the Swiss program a big boost, and the more countries that can compete, the better!

most amazing 2 wins since usa 80.

gerber was a wall!! streit=federer on ice!

a team that works very hard and has a great goalie can always win.
(especially when their opponent takes so many stupid penalties. :D )

eh, should be a good wakeup call for Canada.

Swiss are not to be taken lightly, athough if their plan is to scrap and hope thier keeper can turn away 50 shots every game ...don't know how far they'll go...

They're definitely the best of the lower tier in this olympics though...

    some thoughts on the game...
Why was Quinn playing Draper with Iginla and Sakic at even strength?
Bert was pp only -- no even strength time
Thornton was a pretty big goat on the game winner (other was 5-3, right?)
    J. Davidson was trying to make a consiracy case out of the Russian ref vs Nash ...after last time ...same guy Nash ran at the end of last olys..

    congrats suisse :handclap: :handclap:

canadian players have to adjust their game if they want to win gold. can't clutch, grab, x-check, and throw elbows here. its not the nhl. im sure they'll medal though.

I didn't watched the whole game but the swiss played alright. Even Vinny Lecavalier admitted on air that they [the swiss] did an outstanding job at preventing shots from the slot and that the canadians had to shoot from bad angles, and when they had a great scoring chance, Gerber did his job.

Miracle on Ice? A little over the top IMO. Gerber had a great game, and Canada did not play well at all.

This whole tournament has been very exciting, with fewer blowouts than expected. I'd say the hockey games, both mens and womens, are the big story at the Olympics right now.

Be careful about kicking Canada while they are down now, chances are you will be eating crow later on. They are still one of the favorites to win the Gold.
