He's been the sh^t lately. Looking like a future captain. Too bad he hits UFA status at 28.

Zucker's Mohawk move when he gains the Blue line is amazing. He actually gains speed when he does it, as well as space.

Posted this in the main board Gralund thread; it's basically just the company that he's been keeping over the last year and half...

From the beginning of last year until now, Granlund is in the company of these notable players when it comes to PPG:

(within 0.05 PPG, which would be 4.1 points over an 82 games season)

Behind
Benn
Draisaitl
Voracek
Girioux
Seguin
Barkov
Panarin
Hall
Matthews

Tied
MacKinnon
Laine

Ahead of
Schwartz
Kuznetsov
Ehlers
Forsberg
Monahan

I think people can put to rest whether last year was a fluke at this point.

40pts in 45 games, 73pt pace
15 goals, 27 goal pace
25 assists, 46 assist pace

And again, that was with a slow start just like last season... 1pt in the first 5 games and then slowly ratcheted his game up from there... now has 13pts in his last 10 games.

He had 11pts in 14 games in Dec, and had 13pts in 11 games in Jan.

I used to laugh at people predicting that he would score 65-70 pts. back when he was scoring the low 40's. That was when he played C, though. I still think that KOivu plays a part in his success, and if he isn't playing with Koivu then it's Staal. Not a bad consolation prize.

On any quality team he should get quality linemates... that's not a knock against him, that's just simply a smart move.

He's been our top offensive player for coming up on two full seasons, the coaches would be remiss NOT to give him good linemate options.

I'd like to think Granlund as a Spurgeon of forwards. Might not be enough dominant and physical to carry the whole line/pairing... but what they do, they do it so well that actually are the missing links or final pieces of a puzzle. Both make their teammates better too.

Suter- Spurgeon
Koivu-Granlund

Remember when we had a bunch of pass first players and no one would shoot? Now i think things have flipped over enough with the advent of Staal, Nino, and Zucker that i think we could use another pass first guy like Granlund. His skills are very timely for this team right now. Don't know who of the up and comers has a similar skillset. Lodnia? KK?

We'll see on him. I think Ennis tries to be a Granlund type player, but can't?

Ennis has never been much of a playmaker, drive to the net and shoot has been his game. Coyle is more of a pass first player, and he's one of the guys than needs to shoot more. Koivu is still a pass first guy. None of them have hands as soft as Granny's though. It's one area where Pommer is being missed this year.

82GP pace: 25g 47a 72pts.

Love that the goal scoring is there. I remember concerns early in his career when I thought he would never score 15 in a season.

Mikko certainly not scoring much this year. His 5 v 5 scoring is abysmal. Still, he's doing better than Kesler(that evil SOB), his doppelganger.

Yes, Koivu isn't scoring, but he won 71% of the faceoffs.
Mainly in the own end, I'd guess.
So these o-zone starts helped Granny's scoring.

Who was the other winger?

71% in a single game maybe? He's at 52.2% for the season.
