I know he's a borderline prospect since he's played just over 80 games, but what kind of offensive potential do you see Milan Michalek having? I know he's a solid 2-way guy, but do you ever see him getting 30+g or 70+pts?

Yeah... I think of Milan as a future perennial Selke-Candidate. His #s will never be eye-popping, but 30 g / 40 a seems like a realistic ceeling. He did not produce all that well this season, but he played a very smart two-way game and he showed flashes of brilliance. He lacked a bit in the finishing department, wasting quite some 1-on-1 situations that he gained with his speed, but he also scored some great goals.

Remember the kid didn´t play more than a handful of games in the 2 years prior to last season (because of injury). He has put that injury behind him and he will take a big step forward this season. Go Milan :)

Some of his highlight-goals:

70 pts + selke candidate = a top ten player in the league. Is that what you're really trying to say?

I didn´t say 70+, I said 70 as his ceiling (but I think you got that :D)! 70 is not THAT high in the new NHL... And if you consider a Jere Lehtinen calibre-forward top-10 in the league, then yes. I don´t consider Lehtinen top-10, so my answer if I consider Michalek a top-ten player in the league is an resounding no...

I think he could be a top 10 player. The kid is amazing to watch out on the ice (he beats defenders regularly) and a danger to score always with his size and speed. He definitely has the skills and once he develops that oh so important consistency...this guy will be on everyone's lips when they talk about San Jose.

Isn't Conroy a good description for what you're talking about? (70 pts & Selke candidate). I sure wouldn't consider Conroy a top 10 player in the league.

I think that Michalek will definetely be in the position to put up points in SJ. His all around game and speed make him a great fit on the 2nd line w/ Marleau & Bernier, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him produce at the 60-70 point level in a couple of years. I think that he definetely has to polish his finishing skills, but if he does that look out.

Oh snap.

When Michalek was drafted, he was labeled the most NHL ready, but expected to struggle in the scoring department because of his lack of willingness to shoot. Aside from the 2 years off from that injury, he's developed pretty much as expected. He'll probably end up being a better version of Sturm.

he reminds me of a poormans hossa. I could see him putting up close to 80 if he gets the right linemates.

In reality, Conroy hasn't been that great defensively since his point totals went up.

What I'm talking is more a Sergei Fedorov.

i find that a very fitting description (poor mans hossa)...better speed than hossa, lower all around skills and puck control, could turn out better defensively(not that hossa's a slouch)...I see him as more complete than sturm, better puck control and more playmaking ability...lets see how his finishing skills develope...definitely a player, could exceed expectations...

I'm sure that no SJ fan would complain if MM turned into a Federov clone. Just my $.02 though - but Federov in his prime was a 100+ point player in addition to be a Selke candidate. Now a-days, it seems like you have to be in the 50-70 point range just to be considered for the Selke.

I've long been a fan of him before he was drafted by the Sharks. I think he can (will) be a top 10 winger when he hits his prime. He is a hybrid of Marian Hossa and Jere Lehtinen. With his speed and size, he is an absolute beast on both sides of the ice.

Further reasons to expect good things from Michalek:

sjsharks.com said:
The reason Michalek has been garnering attention is that the two goals he scored Saturday night, both highlight worthy, took him from a tie for first in the NHL with five preseason goals, to the overall lead with seven.

“He is so good and he is faster compared to last year,” said Bernier. “This year he has not missed much and his confidence keeps growing. On the first goal, he was even with the defenseman and then was 10 feet in front of him.”

Michalek has always been known for his defensive awareness, but Wilson wants him focused on the offensive side of the puck.

“I just want him to have the mentality that he is a scorer and not a defensive specialist,”
said Wilson.

Mabye a top-10-player in the league isn´t out of question for Michalek... He is even faster this preseason as he was last season and he has shown a finishing touch not known... Looks like he already is putting it together... Wow, just wow...

I was not able to see the goals tonight. I am a huge fan of Michalek's, so if anyone could post a link to those goals I would greatly appreciate it.

I am very excited to see what he can do this year.

Goodluck Milan, and stay away from that chump Torres.
