Thanks, appreciate the mulligan. I was way too optimistic first go round.
It was a trap! Maurice has outperformed everyone's expectations (at least in this version of the poll - the original had some votes for later than now IIRC). He can't do it before the end of the month with tonight's game being the last in November. Seems almost certain he'll hold the record by mid-December though.

This is a very unbecoming thread considering that Paul Maurice will be the NHL Coach of the Year.

That’s right. You heard it here first and I will be busy in the kitchen cooking up some crows to serve to most of you! :D

You should compile a list of all the nay-sayers, when he wins the award they can all buy him a beer!

He's not out of the running. It is an award that often goes to the most improved team. A lot will depend on LV handles the last 2/3 of the season.

For that matter a lot will depend on how the Jets handle the last 2/3 of the season.
If Vegas makes the playoffs I think Gallant is a lock. I think Claude Noel could get this Jets roster into the playoffs...

It's a shame Tampa will be where it happens. An achievement like this deserves to be celebrated on home ice, in front of all those fans who've spent thousands of dollars attending losing efforts. Oh well, maybe there will be a pre-game recognition ceremony before the Canucks game. Present him with a lovely keepsake.

How did this not get bumped with Maurice taking sole possession of the record for career NHL coaching losses last night?

Congrats to
for their correct choice of "December 1-15"

There are some other active coaches on PoMo's tail: Trotz is only 24 losses behind. Quenneville is 80 back of Maurice. Hitchcock is 91 behind. It depends on how long a leash Maurice is going to get here...but Trotz is a real challenger I think. Quenneville too - even if Chicago fires him, he'll get another HC job somewhere. When Maurice gets fired from Winnipeg, that'll probably be it for him as an NHL HC, so it's just a question of how many losses he can rack up here before then, and whether that will be enough to hold off Trotz and Quenneville.

BTW: Winnipeg's traditionally been a bit of a coaching graveyard - not many have coached here and gone on to other head coaching jobs after getting the axe from the Jets. Tom McVie coached the Devils for 153 games over parts of 3 seasons. Tom Watt went on to coach 309 games in Vancouver and Toronto after his stint here in the early 80s...this makes him the most successful post-Jets coach in history (and he was an abysmal 104-167-38 (.398) in those jobs). Or maybe Bowness was the most successful in terms of games as a head coach after being fired by the Jets. 435 games in Boston, Ottawa, NYI and Phoenix. His record was even worse than Watt's: 115-272-45 (.318). After that it's only Paddock, who coached the Sens for 64 games after getting canned here.

Coaches who never held another head coaching job after Winnipeg: Bill Sutherland, Barry Long, Dan Maloney, Bob Murdoch, Terry Simpson, Claude Noel.

Looking back at all the Jets 1.0 and 2.0 head coaches, Maurice has the highest point% of any of them (.513). Noel is 2nd (.507). Those two get a bit of a boost from OT (1983-present) and SO (2005-present) wins and loser points (1999-present). But those are the only 2 coaches on the list with a career record over .500.
