Local Edmonton media has been speculating that Benning will likely be moved this summer. We have three young defencemen that are viewed as ready to make the jump to the NHL (Jones, Bear, Lagesson) and two more solid prospects coming in Bouchard and Samorukov.
Benning, I feel, is a bit underappreciated in Edmonton. He’s 25, RHD, won the Oilers hardest shot competition last year, is signed for 1 more year at 1.9 million, and expires as an RFA. He’s a good bottom pairing defencemen with decent offensive instincts that had 15 even strength points last season and is usually a plus fancystat guy.
Connor Brown for Benning has been discussed at length and I feel gets revisited this offseason but anyone else have a forward they’d move for Benning? We’d be looking for a guy that can play third line minutes. 3C is the biggest need but wing is fine too.
