He does nothing that Blidh or Gabrielle could do a lot cheaper, use the money for something else

Spooner hasn't looked awful at all. When he and Merchand were on the ice together they were creating chances as well. Perhaps looking too hard to see something wrong with Spooner?

Spooner hasn't looked awful. I respectfully disagree. The only forward that has looked as bad as Spooner would be Vatrano and that does mean many have looked very good . Spooner should be sitting with the way he is playing and I do think Butch sat him most of the second half of the game.

Keep playing him, for now. Give him his 10 games. At least he's shown a pulse thus far. It's not from lack of effort. And he looks the slightest bit quicker than last season, so that's an... improvement?

He's not even close to Hayes territory. My hope is he gets a few, looks solid and can be moved.

I'm going to see what I think after 20 games

First impressions say he's the same player he was last season - maybe the injury has had a lasting effect. My heart says he's checked out of being a Bruin - he knows he's not going to be remembered as a good player here.

The idea of someone trading for that contract is comical at this point.

It really does suck because in that first year he looked solid. I guess that some people have a better crystal ball than I do because they saw it coming.

He is pretty much the only forward we have that actually hits anyone,I say keep him in there. With Backus out this is a really soft bunch of forwards.

Belesky brings intensity but he needs to have stability to succeed. Every other game he's paired with new linemates. There has been so much churning in line combos it's hard for anyone on this team to succeed. Belesky isn't a 30 goal scorer yet everyone thinks he should produce like a 30'er. He isn't a fighter. He's a grinder that with his speed and grit can take up space for better players to shoot and score and a great guy to hover around the net to catch rebounds.

I don't blame him at all. He needs to have consistent linemates and consistent time on ice to get his game on. He and Spooner are emblematic of the daze & confused play going on now. Too much is being asked of players who need to play together, put in a position to succeed, and not have their jobs threaten on every shift.

Boston is a very tough sports town to play in. The expectation is through the roof and simply unrealistic. There is far too much anxiety in this organization and it is suffocating otherwise good players.

Fantastic assessment I agree that maybe deep down he knows - looks around and who the coach is

Well at 60% most fans agree Beleskey is on a very fine line. If within the next 5 games he remains pointless he's as useless as a Hayes and another very poor signing. Next up after Beleseky will be big contract Backes.

I was dead set against signing Beleskey, when rumors came out we were interested, I was furious. He came in and had a solid first season and really shut me up. However, let's all hope he can regain that form because we don't need another dead contract on the books.

the few games I`ve watched so far this season Beleskey has played better than last season. The problem with that is the bar was set so low based on his performance and I`m still not seeing the guy we saw in year 1. There`s only so much time the GM/Coach can afford to give those who haven`t found "it" before they start making roster adjustments to try and spark change

To this day, I don't understand why he was signed. Much like David Clarkson, it's confusing when guys who are essentially glorified grinders get signed for too much money.

He’s not good enough for the fourth line. Beleskey is a black hole for offense and possession, you’d be better off having a line with only two forwards. I said last year that he was worse than Hayes and I don’t think I was wrong.

The problem wasn't in signing him. That was defensible . It wasn't in the cap hit. That number won't ruin your season.

It was the years. You don't sign guys like him to more than a 2 or 3 year deal. And Dan will tell you, I said this immediately. This isn't hindsight.

He was never going to be a top 6 player, and you can't play him on special teams. So he can only contribute in a very limited way, and if he slips (like he always was going to after a career year), you're stuck with him. Like we are.

A lack of flexibility killed Chiarelli here. Sweeney doesn't seemed to have learned from those mistakes. Don't give long term contracts to bottom 6 guys, or guys in their 30s. Those are organizations killers.

With Beleskey, it's not only the points I look at. It's the hits. His first season in Beantown, he had 260 hits, 1st by far on the Bruins and a very respectable 6th in the league and 100 more than he ever had in a season. I think if his physical game can return to form, he'll begin producing a few points. I thought he was decent past couple games.

Not sure I'm on board with this characterization.

Yes many of us were on alert when he was a free agent as he had Marty Lapointe, David Clarkson, etc. written all over him. His points were due in large part to his linemates, and everyone knew it. The thing is the Bruins actually paid him less than what some talking heads expected, and more in line with a 3rd line, gritty guy who might be able to slide up the lines and score if needed. I didn't like the signing personally, but it was below estimated value, so hard to hate on it at the time.

The problem we have is not that he's not the point producer he was, it's that he sucks at everything else. You can't be gritty, hard on the puck, etc. when you are never near the puck. This isn't on a coach or linemates or anything external to the player. He just doesn't have it anymore, be it a fault of health, effort or natural causes. He now stinks, and unfortunately he's not the only nor the last of the players this GM has acquired/signed who has either stunk or declined. So I say again---Don Sweeney and his pro scouting department need to get a hell of a lot better at that area of the job. Right now they are the Matt Beleskey of judging and acquiring pro talent.

Belesky-Kuraly-Nash is a fine fourth line or Belesky-Kuraly-White. Some offensive pop and good physical players.

he's played in all five games.

Least amount of ice time per game for any forward not named Vatrano (10:47)

He has no points, 9 hits, 5 shots, 1 fight, 1 block, 1 takeaway and a -2. He is somehow reducing his value more, as he doesn't have the injury excuse.
