Yes, he was released by the Wings and released by the Canes. He was a contributor on the power play this preseason so I'm fine with him on the team. I don't think he's going to be particularly successful but have nothing against him. Glad to have a younger guy who can potentially score in the lineup. The PP was total trash last year so throw as much at the wall as you can and see what sticks.

#RedWings released PA Parenteau from his pro tryout. They will speak to David Booth tomorrow.

Looks like Kenny is going to sign Booth after all.

I remember multiple "experts" around here screaming "it's just a try out, no way they'll be signed".

LOL

I saw Frk for a couple of years, in Halifax. (Was a Mooseheads season ticket holder). He was a vey good player and won the Memorial Cup, being a vital component to that team. He, obviously, had a rough adjustment to the pro game, but the way he is playing now is very similar to how he played with Halifax. Very happy to see him do well.

I think he will used as a cap tool to sign him for a contract to maximize the LTIR 100% usage. There's no that kind of caphit now when Frk was kept up.

Also, don't mind him as a bench vet. Guy played good.

Good for him, I'm happy for him, looks like he's been working hard and it paid off.

As for Booth, yea I thought there was no way in hell, then Bert and Svech got hurt, and Booth played well. So yea shit happens buddy, can't predict injuries.

Unless he starts with a great stint in the fourth I don't see him as a regular fixture in the lineup.

Lot of things have happened since the last season waivering.

A) Young player got seasoned one season more. At last season he wasn't NHL ready. Keeping "AHL-level scrub" on the NHL bench would not have developed him like one extra season playing in AHL did.
B) League changed the penalty rules, more power-plays coming.
C) Frk is a PP specialist
D) Wings last season PP sucked with same guys it was okay before.
E) Frk is a PP specialist.

So, one year ago we had an asset with not much value. He did develop as a player and raised his value. And league changed rules, which did fit to his skill-set.

Pretty much this. At least he's only 24 (in 5 days) with some life in his body unlike the has-been's the Wings look to for solutions. I can't imagine he'd ever be more than a 3rd liner. Along with the snooze-fest last night I caught some of LA/ANA and COL/PIT and holy smoke the teams were flying. They were legit NHL games that I'm skeptical Frk can really have an impact on. It's such an elite fraternity.

Again I'm glad he isn't over 28 on the downward swing of his career. Best of luck.

Just love him. What on Earth did he do on summer training, skates fast and that shot is absolute bomb.
His shot seems way more controlled as well, I've seen a lot of his clappers skating a foot or less over the ice.

Excuse me, someone told me Frk is nothing more than a career AHLer. Still give the spot Frk legit earned to AA. Mostly because AA is just so fast!

Aside from the obvious goal/points, he looked competent out there. He showed good hustle and wasn't completely useless if he wasn't winding up for a shot.

Reading some comments here makes me happy. I've always liked Frk and I was kinda sad because I thought he wasn't going to make it due to his skating.

I've always had a thing for Czech players. I hope he does well and I hope you guys have a good rebuild.

Good luck this season!

He was clearly offended by my gut feeling that he'd only score a measly five goals over the course of the season. At this rate I'm gonna choke on all the crow I'm gonna have to eat. We'll see how he fares if teams start paying a little more attention to him but for now it's nice to have a reason to look up from the laptop when I hear Ken Daniels call his name.

Really happy for him getting his chance and so far taking it. A guy who struggled terribly adapting to the pro-game, but who worked, worked and worked some more, and turned down chances to run back home in order to get his shot. His improved release speed and skating has been massive for him, and so far he looks a viable NHL-er. Wonder what AA is thinking, and what it means for when AA comes back.

While I am happy he has scored twice and played decently so far, my concern is that both his goals were saves that the goalie should have made. He has an absolute bomb, but both and especially his first goal were weak shots, with the first one along the ice, which NHL goalies stop about 90-95% of the time. Having said that, he is already doing other little things, that Pulkkinen never did, like back-check, hustle, compete hard, so that is good.

Low shots are still really good shots, especially with a lot of pepper on them...

5 hole before the goalie can even get down? Sounds terrible.

I'm also only cautiously optimistic at this point. I still think he looks like he's struggling with the pace at times. But overall he looks way more comfortable than Pulkkinen ever did. That will allow him to stick around even if he goes through a scoring drought.

He's done a good job keeping his shots on net. On the PP, with the pace on his shot, goalies have a hard time handling it cleanly. His shots have caused some havoc net-front even when he hasn't scored so far.

Not sure if his ES play will hold up, but I think his play on the PP will keep him in the lineup. We will see.
