Good for him. Frk has played well again this pre-season. Hopefully he can figure it out when the bullets are live.

I think this is also the answer to putting Sproul on Waivers as Frk represents the cannon point shot on the PP.

He looks a little quicker this pre-season and that has always been a bit of the problem. Hopefully he sticks this time and gets a feel for quickening his release at this level.

Good news! I was worried he would lose an opportunity to PAP or Booth. I think Booth has had a great preseason but he has no future with the team, so if he makes it I'd rather it not come at the expense of a younger player with unknown upside.

Booth for me comes down to whether or not AA is playing for us this year. I have no problem with signing him, I think he has earned a contract and will just be playing a fourth line role.

Agreed. Given the current state of the team I'd much rather give a young kid a shot to prove himself and become a part of the team, even if it's somewhat of a longshot like it seems to be in Frk's case.

He looked good offensively last night against the Leafs. His skating is a bit rough, but seems to play well in the corners have a good shot and instincts.

I don't think Booth is going to make the cut. It's sounding like Frk is in Witkowski is in. I'm basing the Witkowski add based on Blashill's past with Witkowski and his comments in regard to Witkowski.

"He's a different element than some of the other players," Blashill said. "I personally wanted him on the team this summer. I pushed to sign him because I thought we needed some physicality and some toughness. He brings that and I think he's done a pretty good job. He gets another chance to show today that he's going to be an element on this hockey team."

Not getting my hopes up with Frk. I've had my heart crushed before (Pulkkinen) and will wait until I see how he does with the big boys on a daily basis.

Happy he’s getting an opportunity, but not sure if he’ll be able to hold onto a spot.

He’s a fair amount bigger than Pulkkinen, so might be a little more useful as a bottom 6’er.

What's the point of signing Booth though? How does it benefit the team?

Again, you can't have a team full of kids; you need some sort of veteran leadership, and a guy like Booth has had his share of ups and downs.

Intangibles, if you will.

Booth has something to prove, just like Vanek did last year. A cheap, 1-year deal wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Wings.

The Wings are an overwhelmingly veteran team already, it's not anywhere close to 'full of kids'.

Overwhelmingly? Not hardly.

There are 9 active players 30 years old and over, one of those being Howard, and only four being forwards. Having a productive, positive influence in Booth isn't a bad thing.

Assuming AA does whatever AA is going to do, that is.

I don't think 30 is what makes a player be a veteran, it's the amount of games they've played. I left Sheahan off, but he's basically a veteran. Hell, even Jensen is already 27.

(I'm now going to move the goalposts by specifying 30+ year old forwards.) ;)

Honestly, you're right, I was using the age of 30 as an arbitrary number because I didn't want to bother to look up the number of games played by each guy.

However, "veteran" by game experience alone does not necessarily equal veteran by experience and age. There are things a 32 year old Booth can teach a 30 year old Abdelkader -- not to mention the younger guys who are still trying to bounce back and/or find their way in the system.

All in all, I don't feel like Booth would be a detriment, especially if AA holds out, runs to Europe, gets traded, or whatever. He may not be a SUPEROMGNUMBERONEFREEAGENTSIGNING, but that's what cheap, 1-year "prove it" deals are for: guys like him. He's certainly shown he has the desire and skill to play a 3rd/4th line role on the team.

Is he just gonna be Pulkinnen 2.0? I hope not. He has size over him which is good.

He definitely feels like Pulks at first glance.

Seeing him in person makes me feel different, but it is preseason so that could mean nothing at all.

He's bigger and a better skater than Pulkkinen for starters, he's more tenacious on the puck and he also seems to have a better hockey IQ.

The shot may not quite be the same, but he has the tools to be a decent 3rd liner/PP specialist.

It sounds like he has, especially considering on good of a preseason he has had. Hoping he can bring it throughout the season because our powerplay desperately needs someone who will shoot.

Wasn't he already in the waivers and ended up to the Hurricanes? Way to go Holland:laugh: Good for Frk though.
