Have a hard time believing Melnyk would agree to a buyout. He’d probably rather give a first rounder to another team for them to buy him out.

Not to mention, Gaborik's cap of 4.875 is higher than his 4.575, 3.175, and 3.075 salaries for the next three years. That's actually a pretty good deal for Melnyk, who is a cap floor kind of guy.

While the Sens aren't a cap team and thus the cap hit from a buyout wouldn't matter... Gaborik's roster spot would still have to be replaced. So I also don't see a buyout as any savings would be negligible.

Gaborik could still be traded to someone for them to buyout though.
