ANOTHER HOCKEY CUP
Trophy Donated to Montreal Maroons by Kenneth Mappin

Kenneth Mappin, of the Mappin and Webb Company, has donated a cup to the Montreal Hockey Club, the cup to be awarded to the player voted the most useful man to his team for the season. Each night the sports writers will be asked to vote on whom they consider the most useful man to the club in that game, and the man having the greatest number of points at the conclusion of the season will hold the cup for a year. The competition will open tomorrow night when Maroons play St. Patricks at the forum.

I guess this award did not have an official name, since Mappin and Webb is the silversmith company that made the trophy. Montreal Canadiens had a similar trophy from Mappin and Webb for MVP of home games. Morenz won it in '28.

In a 1930s newspaper, i saw an ad for Mappin and Webb specifically for making sports trophies.

i know Babe Siebert won in '28 and Jimmy Ward won in '31. Siebert played the 1st 1/2 of the season at LW, but the 2nd 1/2 on D. Jimmy Ward was given the trophy in '31 during the 2nd to last game of the season, so it was not always awarded after the season ended.

Nels Stewart probably would have won in '26 and '30, since he won the Hart both times.

Anyone know any of the others? Maroons only existed from '25-'38, and the award did not exist for '25, so it should not be difficult to find all the winners.
