That's terrible news, only 49 , always looked forward to seeing him play back in his heyday. .
Odelein is my all time favorite Montreal player.
Saw him winning the cup in 1993.
I remember is many tilts with Brent Severyn, which he usual loss
Best of luck Lyle.
Scott Stevens did that also.
All the best Lyle!
For the younger ones here who have never seen Odelein play, imagine a 5.11 210lbs Gallagher. The guy gave everything he had, all the time.
Damn...sounds like very bad.
Seeing/hearing his name brings back a lot of good memories. Best of luck Lyle.
Except without the actual hockey ability.
He was fun to watch and was not afraid of anyone and just dropped em. Missing finger and all! His 93-94 season was one of his best.
I remember being at a Habs vs North Stars game as a kid. Lyle fought Basil McRae. Think the Habs won 9 or 10-1 that night.
Great D man, one of my favorite Habs.
I hope whatever is wrong that he pulls through. I can't believe he played as recently as 2006.
Being a Saskatchewan boy and having a close friend who went to school with Odie in Quill Lake, the news is not good. Family is not saying much at all. He kept in touch all the time with his old friends in Quill Lake and would often come back home and help his dad on the farm.
On thing though, Odie partied hard. Like I mean Defcon 1 hard. Thru my buddy I heard a few stories, but this is not the time to relate them.
He had an infectious smile, friendly and kind. A hardworker on and off the ice. A good guy.
One of my all-time faves. I still have his game-used stick (or game-dropped stick at least). I hope he pulls through. For those who didn't know him. Here's how Tim Hunter's nose got the way it is:
great tilt !
Love the vintage audio from Sportsline with Tatti and Hebscher.
It was a good tilt. As much as i love Lyle, Tim Hunter in his prime beats Odelein, Hunter was 31 and Odelein 24.
Great news: Odelein is doing better. His life is no longer in danger. He was battling pheumonia and blood poisoning at the same time. Last week, he looked like he was at death's door step. But thankfully, he's doing better.
Dude was a beast out there.
Any updates on this former Hab warrior?
Good! Glad he is doing better! I miss those years! So sad to see what has happened to the current team...back then we had warriors like Odie!
Lyle Odelein aint going down without a fight.
Dude has 10 times the heart of any current Hab ( sans Gallagher)
Always been a favorite of mine. Loved the way he always smiled and celebrated after a fight, with his messed up finger.
