It's not the fact that a fourth time liner gets four years that gets Detroit in trouble. Does it really matter if you pay Luke Glendening for two years and Matt Martin for two years or one of the two for four?
The issue is that the guys who were signed to be more (Ericsson, Howard, etc.) have to drop down the roster because injury or sucking at hockey. Glenny at 1.8 is nowhere near the issue that Ericsson at 4.25 is. Or Helm at 3.85,
It is term + cap hit that kill you.
