Price seems like a can't miss.

Montoya might bring the NYR a lot of value in a trade as he is now expendable since Lundqvist came along and established himself so well.

I absolutely love the Caps two young goalie prospects, and I believe either could be a true NHL #1. Varlamov has been excellent in various international competitions, and I just got home from watching Neuvrith absolutely own Pat Kane, Sam Gagner and co for a 2nd straight night in the Plymouth/London series. 65 saves on 67 shots so far.

With Kolzig down to a couple years before retirement, these two studs couldn't be coming along at a better time.

I wonder what the Canucks are going to do with Cory Schneider or the Rangers with Al Montoya, two very good goalie prospects who will eventually be #1's but they are behind some young stellar goalies already. Good problems to have I think, as there are a few teams there with no good goalie prospects, like Phoenix, Anaheim, Colorado, Chicago, New Jersey and Philly.

Pavelec in Atlanta too, might not get much of a chance.

a goalie who I think is very underrated and could possibly eventually take over in Dallas is Tobias Stephan.

habsfan18, why do i have a feeling that you only made this topic so you could gloat over the habs goalie prospects which are by far the best of any teams?

For Pens I'd say Goepfert, Brown, and Shaeffer all have a shot at being Fleury's backup. It will just depend on who developes quicker/more. Shaeffer has the upper hand right now, though.

The ones I bolded are the ones I think have a good chance of being a #1 and for their current team. Schenider and Montoya just wont be given the chance with their current team.

i guess ur right. I just felt the comparisons just weren't fair when the habs could possibly have two of the top-5 best goalie prospects and most other teams don't have one.

I also think Helenius/Ramo and Leneveu should soon get a chance, because Tampa doesnt have a real starter and Cujo's getting old

well, you are incorrect in thinking I did this to gloat. I just wanted a fair prospect discussion on a prospect board..

Montoya's listed as an 8.5, the highest prospect listing for a goalie. He's the only one ranked by HF that high.

There are seven 8.0s, including 8.0B Marek Schwarz for the Blues who is obviously the heir apparent to the Blues #1 job as we sit here today. He was the top guy in the AHL affiliate last year and will take another year or two of seasoning before he is ready to take the job when Legace leaves. Legace is a stop-gap only.

How come all the goalie prospect experts failed to catch this so far in this thread? It's not like he's in the top 25 of all prospects at any position.

Well that's hardly the fault of Habsfan18, moreso the fault of Timmins/Gainey in picking great prospects and the fault of these other teams in not having the same luck (Halak was luck, Price was a risk).

I don't know about with their own team but those are the guy I expect to be number 1s. A couple of the other guys might but we'll see.

Jon Quick for the Kings or Jeff Zatkoff could end up decent starters or quality backups.

Bernier is the only one who'll be a top-10 level goalie though, IMO.
