I’m pretty sure not even Babs has specific line combinations in mind right now.
So many things can and will happen during the off-season.
Vegas, UFA signings, trades and training camp for example. At this point in our development the possibility that players steal a spot during training camp is particularly strong (however very difficult to predict now).
The team will probably include Nylander, Matthews, Hyman, Kadri, Brown, Marner, Rielly, Zaitsev, Gardiner and Andersen.
Martin, Komarov and Carrick should have a decent chance as well.
Those are only 10-13 players and therefore lots of remaining question marks. Don’t get me wrong i don’t expect every not mentioned question mark to be moved/claimed/demoted. They will and should not make that many changes. But there will be some changes and i think we have lots of players that could be the ones affected.

That being said, my prediction:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Komarov-Kadri-Marner
Leipsic-Bozak-Brown
Martin-UFA-Kapanen

Rielly-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Trade
Rosen-Carrick

Andersen
UFA

going to guess you aren't a Leaf fan for a couple reasons

#1 your user name

#2 no Leaf fan would even suggest trading Marner that is an AWFUL idea

Long time fan for the Maple leafs ,since Gilmour and Potvin days belive it or not and the choice of my username is simple Yzerman was a legend of that era and one of the best players in history

And yes i also love Marner but we are heavy up front and i think Trouba can be a true Nr1 defensman, and im little worried that marner can be what you say injury prone in the future and of the 3 Matthews Nylander Marner i would trade Marner for a defenceman.

Yes its a gamble but thats the price to get the deal done, and i think Kasperi Kapanen can be just as good as Marner or Close

Kapanen 50-65 p player
Marner 65-70 p player

Everybody is entitled to an opinion, but this one is certainly not a popular one... to put it nicely.

I am not big on predicting the lineups and I really do not like the idea of a guess work as a lot can happen between now and the season opener and then the trade deadline

It's going to be interesting to see what the management is going to do, probably going to look for more "D"

Best scenario of course we develop a top right handed defenceman in our own system but dont se that happens ,so with a strong forward lineup in my earlier post maybe shift 1st and second line this team could easy go a couple of rounds in the playoffs next year.

Grundström - Matthews - Nylander
Landeskog - Thornton - Kapanen
Komarov - Kadri - Brown
Martin - Moore - Hyman

Reilly - Trouba
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Borgman/Dermott - Carrick

Andersen
Nilsson

And i followed Andreas Borgman here in Sweden in my favorite team in Swedish eliteleague Hv 71 and he is a very good signing

We better be getting more than just Trouba if we are trading Marner.
BTW we arent trading Marner because thankfully we have a smart managment group.
Lol at Trouba and Marner being equal value.

To be honest, that first trade is worse for the Avs than the Marner trade is for the Leafs.

The value is not equal, Marner value right now is higher or should be but that is what it costs

But the upside in both players capacity in the future they should have equal value, and i strongly belive a player like Trouba could sucess much better in Toronto than Winnipeg for some reason

I get not wanting to move Marner for Trouba, but are there really leafs fans who wouldn't move jvr and a 4th for landeskog? Seriously? That's pretty ridiculous

I like all of the posters suggesting Brown moves to LW.

Also yes please to Landeskog for JVR + prospect+ pick

Landeskog, Matthews, Nylander seriously would be the best line in the NHL.

Seriously, I want to see handedness respected on Matthews line. In terms of generating possession, it's a beauty. I think it either needs more access to the ice on the left-wing or some generational monster playing offside on the same wing.

I want the puck on Matthews or Nylander's stick "as much as possible", so they can work their magic! I don't want another winger on that line to take away their puck possession time.

It's like Mat Martin, everyone wants to replace him and make the 4th line slightly more skilled. I don't want the 4th line stealing minutes from Matthews, Marner or Kadri line

That shouldn't be a problem. What Matthews line needs is left-handed left winger who can more optimally protect the puck. The speed-oriented, but heavy, North-South style of that line can help us win cups.

I think the line could maximize its use of ice without cannibalizing possession. The problem with Marner is that he plays an East-West brand of hockey ala Malkin. For that reason, it'd make more sense to pair him up with someone more appropriately. I think Kadri can be that player.

Trade: JVR + 3rd round pick to anaheim for Sami Vatanen
Trade: Bozak + Leipsic + Leivo + 1st round (17th Overall) to Vegas for 1st round (6th overall). I realize this is optimistic thinking, but Vegas might like the opportunity to jump at some young guys who can step into the line-up this year without further development (and we have a logjam) a decent 2nd line center in Bozak thats good on the draws. Depends if they have their minds set on someone or not.

If we're trading him for Kovy, why play him off-wing? He's a left-winger and doesn't really carry himself along the half-boards like Oveckin. It really offers no real advantage in terms of scoring since Kovy finishes anywhere like Bure while Ovy utilizes that godly wider-angle one-timer.
