Is he eligible for the playoffs if he is signed now? I think yes?

Great signing. And all Steve Simmonds can talk about is firing Hiller and Smith

Nice - would this mean that he's coming over to NA to play for the Marlies?

Think they are at 50/50 professional contracts for this season, his ELC could start next year and what they could do right now is sign him to an ATO to get around the 50 contract limit.

Wonder when we hear about Bracco?

No, Carl Grundstrom would not be eligible for the playoffs if he is signed now. He will most likely play for either the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Toronto Marlies during the 2017-18 season.

Darren Dreger says the Toronto Maple Leafs want to bring Carl Grundstrom over to North America for the 2017-18 season.

Here is what TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger said regarding Carl Grundstrom on the January 26, 2017 edition of Insider Trading.

https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2017...liminary-contract-talks-with-carl-grundstrom/

Carl Grundstrom of Team Sweden had seven points in seven games at the World Juniors. The Leafs selected him 57th overall in the draft last year. Could he become a Leaf sooner rather than later?

Dreger: He could, as early as next season. Preliminary talks [are] underway. That would mean he would come over and play with the Toronto Maple Leafs or, worst case, the Toronto Marlies. Again, they’re just beginning to talk about it, and there is going to be a decision that has to be made by Grundstrom. Maybe he opts to stay in Sweden. But he’s having a heck of a year in Frolunda. Many compare him to, say, a Patric Hornqvist of the Pittsburgh Penguins, or for the throwbacks — the old group like us — maybe Claude Lemieux back in his day when he was ravaging the league with the Colorado Avalanche.

By signing him, (I think I got this right)., and he plays pro, the first year of his ELC is in effect. Good chance he is "loaned" by the Leafs to play in Sweden, instead of playing for the Marlies though.

So he might be in Sweden a year, Marlies a year, then plays for the Leafs for a year and then he is a RFA.

Ah right - well that's promising they want to bring him over next year. He'll add to the mix of quality wingers the Marlies will have.

A pleasant surprise. The big knock was if his offensive game would round out, and while there is a long way to go for him to produce at the pro level, his performance at the WJC's was pretty impressive.

Best quote about grundstrom
His old coach in MODO, Anders Forsberg, called him the ultimate Canadian-playing Swede: "It is rare to see a player who can play more Canadian than Canadians themselves."
