When did multiple teams wanted Dubas as their gm?
Colorado last summer wanted him as their GM and to give him total control. The Leafs would not let talks continue. Arizona and Buffalo also asked to speak with him about their GM vacancies. It's safe to say he was the Coyotees firstchoice given they hired Chayka.
Mark Hunter has had 0 teams request to speak with him.

They can land taveres all they want, but it still won’t matter with how bad their defense is.

So basically you have no actual facts to back up your claim. Thanks for coming out.
Do I really need to go to the CBA and show you exactly how promising a player compensation from outside sources like marketing is cap circumvention?

It's not circumvention.

The Maple Leafs did it with Stamkos. The outside source (Canadian Tire) promised Stamkos endorsement opportunities.

Nothing illegal about it.

The Toronto market can offer the most money in terms of endorsements. Star players are likely to walk away with anywhere from $1M to $3M in endorsements, on top of their playing salary.

The source that came out with it, CONFIRMED that the NHL approved such an offer. I don’t get why you can’t get that through your head. Go ahead and go to the CBA cause in the end it was approved despite whatever garbage you might think.

Leafs Home Board
My Tavares Leafs offer remains the same today as it did 1 year ago.

A 1 year deal @ $ 15 mil
followed by
8 year extension Jan 1st, 2019 @ $11.375 mil mil thereafter (= JT #91 in actual $$).

= 9 years @ ~ $11.77 mil average for JT to come home.

Tavares isn't going to Toronto because he can earn an extra million dollars a year. Get real.

They were 12th in GA. FYI. I find it very funny hearing the Leafs D is so bad Tavares won't go there, yet the favourite to sign him is the NHl's worst defensive team by far the Islanders.

Islanders roster is going to look VASTLY different. By Friday, the Isles will have a new coach, goalie and who knows what else.

What does last year's Isles team have to do with JT signing an 8 year deal. It's about how the team looks going forward.

What all you TO homers fail to realize is that JT hates the spotlight. Besides Montreal, TO is the last place I see JT wanting to play in. Have you even see him give an interview?!?! He is so uncomfortable. You think he wants to be under the TO media scrutiny for the next 8 years. That coupled with being harassed by fans everytime he goes to dinner?

I can't wait till this is all over.

So he won't go to Toronto even for the most $?

In terms of what JT is looking for:

(1) Opportunity to compete for cup (doesn't have to be the BEST opportunity);
(2) Quality of life / city to live in; and
(3) $$$.

Now let's unpack each of those.

Over the next week, the gap between the Isles and leafs (which isn't as large as TO fans would like to believe) is going to close.

Long Island > Toronto in terms of beautiful places to live, weather and most importantly media scrutiny and being able to leave your house and not have to stop and take selfies with 100 fans

The money will end up being the same/similar wherever he goes.

If Tavares goes to Toronto, it won't be because of a couple million dollars in endorsement money.

There are a lot of other reasons why he'd go to Toronto.

+ $11M to 12M per year for 7 years
+ Top endorsements
+ Captaincy
+ Mike Babock
+ Auston Matthews
+ Talented linemates (Marleau, Marner/Nylander)
+ Contending team
+ Stable organization
+ Hometown

The only possible negative for Tavares might be the media attention.

Other than that, on paper, Toronto is one of the best fits for him.

Doesn't much matter. Tavares hates doing endorsements; turns most of what's offered him down. A deal that's relying on endorsements is more likely to chase him away than be of interest.

Not a fair statement in term of your argument. You can't say "The isles have a better shot at the cup because of some mystery stuff that hasn't happened yet". If the Leafs have an edge as it stands, then you can't tip the scales because of unknowns...because the Leafs may be making some moves as well.

1. There was a 25 point difference between Toronto and NYI. That's significant.
2. Toronto is one of the best cities on the planet. Tavares likely agrees.

You're not in Manhattan, where location would be an advantage over Toronto.

Tavares is a proud Toronto kid.

Media attention isn’t an issue for Tavares. People often make this mistake. He doesn’t crave the spotlight or bright lights but it doesn’t faze him one bit. He’s a robot. The way Kessel and other players were frustrated with Toronto media would never see that with Tavares. The guys a machine.

Which any team that has interest in him -- including the Islanders and the Knights, both of which have more cap room now, and less of a time bomb down the road than the Leafs -- can match or even beat without going through idiotic gyrations that expose both him and the team to risks. Both of those teams have the financial breathing room to lay down 13.25 million AAV if they want to to match that total contract value and require one year less commitment from JT.

Stupid. Period. If he wants to go to Toronto, that's fine. This kind of deal won't be a tipping point at all.

Where the islanders are located on Long Island and where most of them live they’re all close to s half hour to 45 mins to Manhattan.

Toronto is a great city and I imagine most of the players live in the actual city?

Not to mention he’s more critic-proof by virtue of 1. Being on a team with a stacked lineup of centers/offence 2. Taking Bozak’s place in the sheltered matchup role 3. Potentially being the 2nd best center on his team in 1-2 years.

JT's uncle (also named John Tavares) is close friends with Brian Shanahan.

Brian Shanahan is Brendan Shanahan's brother.

The Tavares and Shanahan family are a huge lacrosse family in the Toronto area.

Most of the players live in the downtown area.

Tavares grew up about 30 minutes from the downtown core.
