The real reason Klefbom is basically being pushed to keep playing even thought it's been obvious he needed surgery and the real reason Lucic is stapled to McDavid is Chiarelli.

He desperately needs a "good finish" to be able to sell to Katz why he shouldn't be fired when they do their little "audit" this summer. Lucic needs to get going and score some gimme goals off McDavid. Klefbom needs to be played in the vain hope of a "decent finish" for the team.

That's really what's happening here. It's a desperate GM who doesn't want to get fired putting his job security above the well being of the team.

He has had the injury forever but was cleared to play through much of it this year. Fine.
He held off on surgery because that's his prerogative and he was cleared by docs to do so. Fine.
He may have personal reasons, fear of another staph infection, stubbornness to fight through... as long as he has a medical go ahead. Fine.

He has agreed to surgery finally and they want to keep playing him until then? NOT FINE.
While the injury is said to not be able to get worse from playing, why risk a potentially new unrelated injury when the plan is to shut him down anyways? You want to gamble another issue when the plan is to shut him down anyways?

Slated for surgery, and the organization okays him to play toilet bowl hockey. Pathetic.

So scar tissue from the surgery that caused him to miss the entire season the year after he was drafted?
I believe the scar tissue and the shoulder injury he suffered after the draft are two different injuries kind of like what Hall had in juniors and the injuries he had with the Oilers

The one thing about this that doesn't worry me is that Klefbom is in amazing shape. This isn't a player who if on the shelf for a few months will rot. He's been a physical specimen since he was 17.

Not only that guys that play with injuries develop bad habits to compensate. But this is the Oilers they have never once done the smart thing in lost seasons where wins meant nothing.

Bingo and it's not like they NEED him for these next 5 games and they are making a playoff run. The games are meaningless and he's not helping the team win games anyway so what's the point?

I understand that he wants to play but this is where you need to have a sit down with him and make him see the bigger picture. This is what competent organizations do. There's zero to gain by playing him now and there's always risk of further injury.

Would think it's scar tissue from the surgery. Both of Hall's injuries were a lot more serious that scar tissue, same with Nuge.

These games mean a lot to Chiaturd and Todd. They are banking on a "strong finish" to the season to shield them from an angry owner this summer.

If Chiaturd is fired you think he doesn't know that it's going to be very hard for him to get another NHL GM gig? His goose is cooked. Lucic needs to score more and the team needs to win some games (so Klefbom needs to play) so he can push a narrative to Katz that he knows what he's doing (lol) and shouldn't be fired.

Hall's shoulders injuries when he suffered playing for the Oilers were serious but he also went in for another procedure to correct his shoulders when he suffered during juniors.

Definitely where the organization needs to intervene. I admire his will, but it's simple math at this point. Zero to gain, Something to lose.
I suppose we've never demonstrated any sort of competence at assessing value either way, so this shouldn't surprise.

If Klefbom plays this coming fall for the Oilers still, he better come back looking like Dr. Octopus. God knows how many spare appendages he'll need

The games "matter" now to a desperate Chia and Todd. They need to be able to sell a "well, we had a pretty good finish" to an angry Darryl Katz to buy them some job security in the summer. That's what this is really about.

These morons are forcing Lucic onto McDavid's wing and playing russian roulette with Klefbom's shoulder.

These guys don't give a **** about the team, they are desperate now to save their jobs, especially the dumbass GM who knows his NHL career is likely over if the Oilers fire him. No one is going to hire him just like Milbury cannot get a NHL GM job anymore.
angry Darryl Katz lol. The guy couldn't care less. He is too busy banging escorts. It is obvious the guy has zero care about the Oilers being completing and just wants to cram as many of his 80's oiler buddy's into the org as possible.

What I find the hardest to believe is that he managed to play all 82 regular season games last year. Seems he’s had some physical problem every season since we drafted him. Hopefully next year will be better.

I think I'll be more annoyed when Montoya inevitably starts one more game and they drop a higher pick in the draft for literally no reason.

Be prepared to be annoyed. He's starting tonight. Bet you it's his last game as well and they ultimately upgrade on him this off-season. Well played, Chia/Mc. Well played.

Is it confirmed that we lose the 4th?

With the start last night he has started 4 games as I can see it, he of course played in 7 games, but still.

Anyway, I just don't think it was every really an option not to play him more. He made three appearances in January, started 3 games in Feb and I suppose that the plan was to give him 3 games in March as well, or rather to let Talbot rest 3 times.
