So much for the critics. The re-building Los Angeles Kings franchise, who were predicted by the experts to be bottom-dwellers in the HFNHL this season, currently sit on top of the western conference standings after an impressive 4-1 victory in the season opener against the NY Rangers.

Sure, it's only 1 day into the schedule, but the Kings are enjoying their current playoff position now while it lasts.

"It's a long season" said long-time captain Rob Blake, the clubs' all-time leader in games played. "So far, so good, though."

Forward JP Dumont, who has been the focus of trade rumors recently, chipped in with 2 goals in the victory. Goaltender Cam Ward turned away 20 of 21 shots for the win.

Next up is the 0-1 Chicago Blackhawks who make their way to Staples Center tonight. Game on.

i won't call the critics wrong yet, but if 20 games from now the two lowest ranked teams are still the best in the conference i would call them wrong, but defiantely not complain ;)
