Thank you Elon!
Danny DeKeyser was optioned down the first year after signing and was on a Calder Cup winning team in the AHL. So not an accurate statement even if his stay there was brief. However, DeKeyser is also a defensive d-man that skates a lot better than Brickley so the comparison doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Bottom pairing PP specialists are things most teams already have in their system. I wish Brickley luck but I think people are a little too infatuated with him at this point. I don't see him as better than our bottom pairing guys right now in Detroit and those dudes are terrible.
Signing Brickley and blocking Cholowski makes zero sense to me.
I stand corrected, I forgot the Red Wing's AHL team made the playoffs, only reason why he went down.
As for the comp, I stand by it 100%. In order for Brickley to make it, he will be this type of player at the NHL level, just with more offensive upside. He isn't just a power play specialist, his defensive game has improved. His agility for his size is above average, he is strong on his skates and so strong on the puck..his overall speed is slightly above average, nothing that is going to hold him back. He just does everything well, and a reason why he is the only kid actually visiting teams with a final 5 list and PICKING where he wants to go this year..lol...every team wants this kid - every one of them.
He has been the top free agent in the country for 2 years now, it simply isn't for a power play specialist. Everything I have watched from him, all reports on him, and comments from my very own GM Stan Bowman all indicate this kid is the real deal. I am comfortable saying he will have a DeKeyser like career but on steroids - meaning he will be a NHLer, a top 4 dman right out the gate - and a guy who will be relied on for special teams and even strength play. I love his shot as well, accurate and finds ways to the net to generate offense..I have to strongly disagree with you on this kid as we are talking about 2 different players.
