Alzie, is a 6-7-8th type of Dman.............but he must have reminded our clown GM of himself, hence the prize ufa got signed minutes after the bell went on July 1st. Too much $$$ Too much term, what else can be said...he has struggled this season...to say the least.

Went to the game last night talked to a lot of habs fans and Detroit fans about the habs specifically. Lots of varying opinions some incredibly optimistic and others were all doom and gloom. One thing that almost every single person could agree on was how useless Alzner is and how god awful his contract is. I was actually shocked. Even some of the really optimistic people went out of their way to criticize his play before I had even asked.

Salut les gars,

It seems like you need some D for next season. Maybe should look in the KHL, there is one D, who will play in the Gagarin's Cup Finals next week. Un certain Andrei M.

How did you let him go with a lot of cap space??

According to some here he totally sucks because he didn't dominate the KHL and wasn't selected for Team Russia.

Mr Alzner in 2015 on player tracking technologies

Karl Alzner, a defenseman for the Washington Capitals, voiced concern to the Washington Post “that teams could use data against players in contract negotiations and arbitration hearings.” In the same article, though, an agent for several hockey players pointed out that those same stats could be used to support arguments in players’ favor.

The NHL Is Getting Player-Tracking Technology–Finally

Mr Alzner does not want to be paid for his true value, surprise!

Maybe those people thought KHL was a beer league ? :sarcasm:

Regular season (56 games)
5th in points among Ds (33 points)
His team first in the east
21:37 TOI (played 55 games) = the most on his team

Playoffs
Yeah, he only has 3 points but his team only lost 2 games in 3 rounds. +6 with more than 21 minutes per game.

------

And talking about Alzner, with the millions shots he has blocked for the Capitals, it's normal to see his game declined.
But the man was needed to be paid, fortunately it wasn't the Caps.

I see his iron man streak is still alive. Normally will enter the top 10 all time if he plays 58 first games next year.

Markov is a man of few words. It's hard to negotiate with someone like that. You usually negotiate with the player's agent (not the player himself)

From CapFriendly, here is what it will look like if Alzner is bought out this off-season:

alzner.png

The bad news, he'll count against the cap until 2025-26, the same year Weber's and Price's deals are up. The good news is that aside from 2020-21 and 2021-22, Alzner will only take 1.3M on the cap instead of 4.625M.

Should they keep him another year and he has another crappy season, then the buyout has less impact as it would only count until 2023-24 and the cap hit would be even lower.

He is not a top 4 guy, he just needs to be on the ice, alot less than he was used.........he is a 5-6-7 guy, who got lucky on his contract, because MB is a clown...

I thought Alzner would be a more reliable version of Emelin with a bit less physicality. He's worse than that and his contract could really hinder us down the line. In the next two years while we retool he could be decent on the 3rd pairing with Juulsen and on the PK, but we'll need to move him if we want to contend.
