I recall Martin going heavily into the boards after losing an edge during the Canes debacle. Was actually surprised he got up, and even more surprised he finished that game (he's tough). I'd say shoulder?

I'm in the minority here thinking Martin in the line-up brings an element to the team that is important, and can't necessarily be seen on a scorecard most nights. Certainly not happy seeing injuries to any player, but I am a little excited for Leivo and Kapanen potentially drawing in with some ice-time.

I agree I just don't think he needs to play every game

jvr and martin won't play due to injury, so i assume these are the lines:

hyman-matthews-nylander
komarov-kadri-brown
marleau-bozak-marner
kapanen-moore-leivo

can't say that shouldn't be the lineup night in and night out but that's just me

2 majors for fighting and won them both. 1 roughing because Andreoff wouldn't go him. When he's on the ice, the other team knows it. He's been great this year if you can see past your agenda.

There's no agenda. We have better options, no doubt about it in my opinion. Saying he's been great is having your own agenda really.

Not sure teams care that he's on the ice. I'd be a lot more worried to see Kapanen fly down the wing.

how come fehr isn't a healthy scratch every night? wouldn't it make sense if he and leivo were scratched game in and game out?

Aside from JVR being out, this is finally what I wanted the lineup to look like!
I do like what Martin's intangibles can bring albeit limited, having Kapanen and Leivo in makes that 4th line so much better! Hopefully it'll make Babs think twice about scratching Leivo in the future.

I get what you're saying. I don't fully agree with part time enforcing. I hate paying house insurance also, but unfortunately I can't predict when a fire happens. I don't want to ignite the enforcer vs no enforcer debate, but to me it's either you employ one full-time or you simply don't. I value Babcocks take on this. I know many don't agree....

This is everyone's favourite time of year.

Where we swap 4th liners and expect dramatically different results.

Good to see, hopefully these guys take advantage of the opportunity

We're talking about 7-12ish minutes of icetime, how players will fair here can be the difference between a win or a loss. Do you not think Having say a guy like Brown on that line makes zero difference over a guy like Orr?

Potentially unpopular opinion but I don't think 4th line's NEED or even SHOULD Abe gritty energy lines. Would rather have three skaters who can move the puck and put the puck in the net

Right.

This is why we pay them so much.

I'm sure it "can" but it isn't often. And at this depth level there is very little skill difference.

Ironic though that the guy who actually has had an impact on winning games is out of he line up and that's celebrated over a prospect who might.

Obviously you have to pay your top line's more than your 4th line, but that's more a reflection of the necessity of building a team under a salary cap, than to just say "4th line's don't matter". Not to mention there are long standing biases (ie a 4th liner HAS to be tough), but you look st teams that have sought to put some skill down there - ie he Hawks during their stronger years they had 4 lines contributing offensively.

If a team HAS the depth to build a 4th line that's as skilled as other teams 3rd line's that's an advantage, potentially a significant one.

That's all more in regards to Martin, JVR may indeed be a overall major loss for the team but over this game and maybe the name that couple we can get an insight into how the Leafs lines may fair if he were to be traded.

I 100% agree with you.
The way the game is being played now the more forwards who can skate, shoot and think the better.
The Leafs have also made it known they're closely monitoring minutes and would rather scale down and keep players fresh for late in the game and late in season. Just look at Matthews minutes per game vs the other young stars of the league. If you want to run a system like this (which I totally agree with) then having a quality 4th line is important. Sure these 4th lines will still employ specialists in a sense but they will be much more talented ones than previous years.

I have read a few of your posts..The term "Agenda" is likely hitting the nail on the head another poster used, Frankly i just think your a lot thin in the hockey dept. But hey "no biggy"....some people just like soft hockey.

Have you seen JVR this year? The guy costs this team games. Bringing in hungry prospects is the exact opposite of JVR dont give a **** play.

I have also seen goals scored that have resulted in wins or OT. The guy has a near PPG pace.

You obviously weren't watching.

I don't agree with Sprdave all the time and we like different forms of the game.

But we have been posting together for years. I would not call him "thin in the hockey dept.". He's a pretty knowledgeable dude.
