Scoring is unsustainable, I expect a stupid streak of 20 games or so to get back on track.

Defensively he's lost a bit of footspeed and was not the smartest player to begin with.

Part of his hype is that he was one of the few NHL quality d men on the 'Canes for a while.
Lockout year: After Pitkanen went down Faulk was the lone NHL'er
2013-14: Hainsey
14-15: Hainsey, Liles
15-16 is where Slavin and Pesce arrived about halfway through the year.

13-16, Faulk was more or less the one above average guy on the blueline. Those three years helped his perception immensely.

the heck is up with this man

So he recently got dumped by his long term girlfriend and he's been kinda down in the dumps lately.

Another huge factor is Scott Darling came to town and inherited a love affair for NC BBQ. Darling & Faulk eat BBQ 3-4 times a week together now and have really added some poundage. We suspect this unhealthy eating of bbq is really decreasing production from both these guys.

Faulk also has a endorsement deal with Moes. He has his own commercial with them too. When Justin Faulk scores a goal all Canes fans win free queso. Rumors has it Moes is tired of giving away free queso so they are telling Faulk not to score anymore goals.

Lastly Bill Peters has a love affair for Faulk. Basically Justin Faulk doesn't have to wash the dishes or change the diaper, Bill Peters takes care of all that for Faulk. So Faulk has been a lazy ass.

As the top-20 to 30, #1 (almost) franchise guy we were saying?

In that lower end range, yes. Now, some did aggressively project in terms of talking about him as a Top 10-15 leaguewide defenseman. To be fair, his development had been very consistent up until really the Malone incident.

11-12 - Two-way (leans defense) #4
12-13 - Two-way (leans defense) #2/3
13-14 - Two-way (leans defense) #2

Muller fired, Peters takes over.

14-15 - Two-way (leans offense) #1/2
15-16 - Two-way (leans offense) #1

What's happened since that point has been befuddling. Right now, he's a "no-way" #3/4. This is one of the stranger career arcs I can think of.

Carolina should trade him when he still has some trade value. Faulk's defensive positioning has never been very good but this season has been something horrible. And he also has scored just one goal and six assists in 33 games. Very bad numbers.

Only got to watch two periods but he looked good those two periods tonight. Actually, all of our defensive liabilties seemed to look good tonight, including Skinner. I didn't notice Dahlbeck in a good or bad way, except that one penalty kill that he made two solid blocks

Idk what was said, but hopefully it continues

TBH I wonder how much he read his own press clippings. A lot of the mistakes he’s making involve a lack of focus. As a younger player he had a little more jump in his game. That’s been replaced by a sort of mindlessness. Guys who are dialed in and listening to their coaches don’t usually seem to have that issue.
