I hope management does everything in their power to convince him to come over. Give him an incentive laden, lucrative contract w an out clause to the KHL, if it doesn’t work out.

Oh and buy Greiss out in the process to free up money and a spot.

Had the chance to watch Cockerill a couple times in the Hockey East playoffs/championship game. I wasn't sure what team had his rights but immediately had to check after watching him play. Has speed to burn and pretty decent hands to go with it. Competes really hard as well.

Thanks for the report. He wasn't a high pick, so if he turns out to be a speedy 4th liner/PKer, that would be a good return. From your description, sounds like that's at least a possibility.

I've often wondered why a number USNTDP kids sometimes don't get drafted or at least don't get drafted until late.

Cockerill isn't big, but if you've got speed to kill and you spend time in the program showing that you can play a team game and do all the little things a team needs from its lower line players, then what's not to like?

For a 7th rounder, he's had a lovely little pure freshman season. I'm really curious to see what he can do next year.

Bellows scores to reach the 40 goals and 70 point marks. Solid season for him in just 54 games played.

Prorated over a season his totals are 53 goals 40assists 93pts.
Those numbers would rank him 4th in goals scored and 11th on total points in the WHL

Not earth shattering but pretty solid and respectable.
My hopes for Bellows before the season, was that he would score 40+ goals, and he did it, finished with 41 I believe. Had a great WJHC as well, record breaking. So he really delivered the type of season I was hoping for. He is still, in my opinion, a sniper who will score 30+ in the NHL. Good size and plays with grit. Perfect for a 1st line sniper. Loved the pick when we made it, and still love it.

50 goals in 62 games if you count the WJC.

Assuming we resign Lee that could be two good goal scorers on the left side in our top six.

Is Ho-Sang not performing in BP since his demotion? His stats look very underwhelming for a guy who is supposed to be as high-end offense as he is. Most similar prospects are hovering around a point per game in the AHL who project to be the same type of player.

I haven't watched many BP games, but my guess is he's getting the Strome treatment. He will never be good enough defensively, so lets destroy the single part of his game that made him a promising young player worthy of taking in the first round. He will be a complete basket case by the time Snow trades him next year for a 4th round pick.

I will fall into the comparison trap - maybe Cockerill can turn into a Carl Hagelin.

He is primarily a play maker and there is literally no one to pass the puck to in Bridgeport. The team is lacking in offensive prospects and doesn't have veteran AHL players of any consequence on offense. I am not worried about his offense as long as he is working on the rest of his game.

A rumour says that Otto Koivula has signed a contract with Isles. His skating is still an issue and he is therefore not ready for NHL. One more year in Finland, one year in AHL and then in NHL, if everything goes great with his development...

Would be slow but fine with me, I heard a story a while ago that only recently has he taken the offseason seriously for training. Something about watching the work Barkov put in, anyway, hope he continues taking it seriously and then can improve his skating

what's your estimate time frame for Bellows to make the big club? see him as a future winger to Barzal?
He has said he expects to be on the isles roster next season. I expect it will come down to how he does in training camp. A strong camp and he sticks. I have not heard of any big weaknesses that may need ahl icetime to work on.

He could make the team next year, but I think it depends more on whether Tavares is staying, and whether will Anthony Beauvillier will be a center or winger going forward.

Obviously if he plays lights out, he can absolutely force himself onto the team, but NYI does have depth on LW (Lee/Beauvillier/Ladd/etc.) and NYI isn’t afraid to send their prospects to the AHL if they aren’t playing up to par on the defensive side of the puck (which is ironic because they are so bad defensively).

I really hope Bellows plays in the AHL all next year. Seems to me that he's the kind of player on the brink of being a 2nd line winger or a bottom-6 grinder. Rushing him makes the latter more likely

I know that's regarded as the 'safer' route, but is there ANY data to support that? Or is this (like I think it is) just another group think thing?

Some players need the coaching, some need a challenge. Really hard to saw which way is correct until it's too late.

I mean, I'm not a group, but this is based on stuff people who know more about hockey than I do say. Which is like 95% of this site.

Pronman had some nice things to say about him in his latest mailbag.

"One of my favorites in last year’s draft. Really quick, works hard and has skill, too."
