There's no basis for conversation on this one if you're starting off with the impression that Toews has significant value that is only cancelled out by Seabrook's albatross of a contract. In reality they both have either no value or negative value. Moving both those contracts in one trade is impossible.

Toews probably has negative value at this point. Adding Seabrook makes it crazy negative.

Yes I am. lets say the Sharks offer Paul Martin, a B level prospect ( say noah rod) and some other peanuts for towes and seabrook with no retention, would Chicago bite? Sharks could absorb the 18M and replace thornton with towes.

I'm not saying its realistic, I'm saying there are positions where teams could take the hit.
Obviously Chicago would bite. They'd have to pay through the nose to move those contracts

Some team would probably take Toews at full value. Not many of them, but with the rising cap I’m sure there would be some crazy GM who would make that move if he could,

Pre-Draft Lottery

Canucks

Toews $10.5m x 5y $42.6m cash
Seabrook $6.875 x6y $$37m
Gustav Forsling
Chicago 1st 2018
Chicago 1st 2019
Chicago 2nd 2019

Hawks
Ericsson $6m x 4y $20m cash retained 50%, so $3m x 4y
Hutton $2.8m x1y $2.8m cash
Nilsson $2.5m x1y $2m cash
Conditional Canucks 2nd 2018 if Chicago 1st 2018 wins any of the 3 lottery picks.
Conditional Canucks 7th 2018 if Chicago 1st 2018 wins any of the 3 lottery picks.
Conditional Canucks 3rd 2020 if Chicago 1st 2019 wins any of the 3 lottery picks.

This is Canucks basically spending $60m+ to buy a few picks. Want to load up for 2019 Draft in Vancouver
Ericsson @ $3m x4y is now a decent contract.
