Is this draft better for defensemen than previously thought?

I know the buzz before was that this draft was going to be especially heavy on offensive players, but now a couple of defensemen have IMO slipped into the top-10 and all the guys listed have a decent chance of going in the first two rounds:
    Alex Grant
    Alex Plante
    Brendan Smith
    Colby Cohen
    David Stich
    Eric Doyle
    Ian Cole
    John Negrin
    Jonathan Blum
    Karl Alzner
    Keaton Ellerby
    Kevin Marshall
    Kevin Shattenkirk
    Mark Katic
    Nick Petrecki
    Nick Ross
    Radim Ostrcil
    Ryan McDonagh
    Teddy Ruth
    Thomas Hickey
    TJ Brennan
    Tommy Cross
    Yakov Seleznev

Is it that the defensemen have improved as the year has gone by or that the forwards have regressed? Or both?
