“The Rangers aren’t interested in Kovalchuk”

*a bunch of insiders report the Rangers are gonna sign him, and clearly interested*

“Well, they’re the only one interested, take it or leave it, one year”

@eco's bones @GAGLine

I must've given like 20 reasons why against this signing.
Some of the main ones being,
He's 35 years old.
He hasn't been in the league in 5 years and the game has changed quite considerably since then.
Add to that the smaller rink size.
It's tying up $6M for x amount of years where that money could be used to sign long term pieces obtained via trades/UFA signing -2019.
It's also a contact that's going to have a NTC attached to it.
Quite honestly, I'd rather just play a kid in that spot if a long term winger isn't available via trade at the moment.
These type of moves just always seem to come back and bite this team in the ass..Redden, Boyle..etc, etc..
And while you can change the description to this transaction and call it a stop gap, at the end of the day, it's exactly the same type deal the above players got.
A retirement contract.
Did I mention he's 35 years old?
Sign him for one year and cut him lose before next year's UFA and I'm on board.
Anything more than that is a bit crazy IMO
You don't have to agree but those are a few of my reasons.
Explain how this would be like the Redden deal to me like I'm five.

Is give kovalchuk 1 yr at an absurd dollar figure just to stay away from the 2nd yr. 2 years from now is an ungodly amazing free agent class.

I tend to agree, not so much that I am worried about next years UFA class, more so that signing a multi year plus 35 contract has many disadvantages.

As with anything, the devil is in the details - in this case term and dollars.

I’ve never been one to outright dismiss most concepts without knowing the details. Give me some details, and I’ll know if we have a starting point from which to work.

A one year deal would obviously be great, considering if NYR are out of contention near the deadline he has potential value as a rental.

1 yr 10 mil. Then have an under the table agreement to sign him again at 1 yr for 2 mil.

You’re another one. The Rangers are interested in Kovalchuk to a point. They wound prefer one year. If they are the only team interested, why offer more than one year? I would love to negotiate against you.

He's implying you dismissed Bobby Mac as a source when the report didn't agree with you but are using him now when it does. I have no clue if he has a leg to stand on and idc but that's what he's implying

Dreger made those comments about Kovalchuk. Maybe East Coast Bias thinks McKenzie and Dreger are the same person.

Are the Rangers the only team in the world that will sign him?

He could re-sign with his current club. Maybe were bidding against them.

I'll sit and wait for the condescending response.
