Tampa Bay had the ability to sweep any team in 4 games. Including Capitals, Vegas and any other top team you can think of. They had a really good team

They simply completely and utterly choked. Full credit goes to Columbus - but if you change the dynamic and if Tampa plays another team, it's possible they destroy them....or not. Impossible to say. "On paper" the matchup of Tampa and Carolina looks as lopsided as Tampa/Columbus was supposed to be.

On paper Tampa / Columbus was not that lopsided. Columbus was a bigger stronger team that could skate with Tampa, and if you add in Duchene and Dzingel's goals for (subtracting who they replaced) the Jackets are around 300 goals on the year, second only to the Lightning. If they had figured out their powerplay prior to the very end of the season they would have similar goals for to Tampa. In terms of goals against, Tampa was never that good. The goaltender performance did flip from the regular season, but at least in Bob's case, the guy has multiple Vezinas, no one should be shocked by his abilities.

Is the Metro really that good? Playing the Flyers/Devils/Rangers probably inflated that division.

Flyers would easily be a playoff team if they got to play in the soyboy Atlantic.

Rangers and Devils would probably be bubble teams in that division, it’s laughably weak compared to the Metro.

The Metro is the best and most brutal division in hockey and it’s not even remotely close. The only reason any teams ever have any success against the Metro is that they’re so beaten up and exhausted from division play or they’re just conserving energy for an upcoming Metro showdown.

I think the Hurricanes would have won, but probably wouldn't have swept the Lightning like the Blue Jackets did.

Tampa just was bad. I don't think they would have beaten any of the EC teams besides *maybe* Pittsburgh. Maybe.

I think any team that threw a disciplined trap at us would win. Maybe not as easily as CBJ won--respect to them--but I don't think we stood a chance as soon as a team decided to buckle down. We saw glimpses of it in the regular season too.

What if the TBL and CBJ had worn their alternate jerseys?
What if the Axis powers had won WWII?
What if Torts was a cat lover instead of a dog lover?
What if ice cream had never been invented?
What if Schroeder's cat lived?
What is Schroeder's cat died?

These are all equally interesting and just as relevant questions to the original question of how would Carolina to against the TBL.

Honestly, who knows? Columbus might have been the perfect storm of effort and strategy to take them down.
