Bring back the Golden Seals right?

;)

Dear God, no.

What I hope is that in 25 years or so that young fans look at teams like the Preds, Thrashers and Hurricans the way the Golden Seals are looked at today, as in "huh, there was a team called what??????"

A lot of you have said that tourists might not want to go to a hockey game in Las Vegas but look at it this way. If you're from somewhere like Toronto or Edmonton or Detroit and were thinking about taking a vacation to Vegas in the middle of winter, why wouldn't you look at the scheudle and say, "Hey the Oilers will be playing in Vegas in January, we should go to Vegas then and we can catch a game while they're there." If you're going to be in Vegas for 3 or 4 days, spending 3 hours in an arena isn't that much time away from the casino. Not to mention the fact that you can't spend like 16 hours a day in the casino, unless you're really really really rich.

The Kings have been playing preseason games in Vegas for like 8 years now and tons of Kings fans make the trip. I'm not saying you'd get like 5,000 fans from other teams to go to every game in Vegas, but I'm sure you would get some fans willing to plan a trip to go to Vegas and see the NHL. As for the rest of it I'm sure you'd have some residents willing to buy season tickets as well as the casinos and other businesses to give employees or customers.

It's not happening. The casinos control the city and having a home team in Vegas means you can't place bets on that league. Which means the casinos lose money. Not happening.

Why wouldn't you be able to bet? There's nothing saying you can't place a bet at a bookie in any other NHL city. If anything, a Las Vegas franchise would draw additional gambling interest, and by association more fans. If a city like Phoenix can support a team (which they can, and don't even start with the 'it isn't a hockey city' garbage) LV can too, and it would be more successful than it would be in several other cities, Winnipeg included. New Orleans would be a better candidate, but I like the geography of having another Western team in the Western part of the continent.

Sorry if anything I said was said earlier, I just brushed through.

Then why the hell would they want *any* major sports franchise?

[edit] That statement can't be the actual rule, because that would eliminate any NCAA football or basketball (and other sports) betting, as UNLV is in Las Vegas. It must be some other precedent. [/edit]

Huh? You sure?
I bet on the Nascar race the day of the race,i know it's not quite the same but it's damn close.
Anyway,i still don't by it because you could bet on the CFL when they had a team there.

I think it would work. Personally, the only thing keeping me from moving to Vegas right now is the lack of an NHL team ... :D

I don't know how much people bet on pro sports in the US (I think it would be a lot), but the NHL is the smallest pro sport, so I guess that few people bet on it. Would this make it more likely for an NHL team to go there than an NBA or NFL team?
