I haven't seen this much verbal masturbat*** in a long, loooooong time

"I was the best Defensive specialist on my novice house league team"
"I led the Nebraska middle school system in +/-"
"I have shiny new skates"

YOU'VE GOT NOTHING!!!!

I on the other hand coulda gone pro, but an injury to my left fibula at age 6 kept me off the pro train.

Shame, i was the leading goal scorer of my league... (My backyard pond)

There is a member of HF who lives in my town and he played some very good hockey. he has since retired but it would be nice if he would share some of his stories about the minor pro leagues as well as major junior. he keeps a low profile though, i hope to lure him out of his gym to talk a bit about it. We'll see if he does.
I am not going to discuss my own playing days as they do not amount to much. I have played against some really good players though and at Christmas time when we play some pickup games the ice is littered with Minor pro, junior and university players. My cousin is Dennis Bonvie and most people know what he is famous for.

How good of a hockey prospect were YOU yourself ??!!

I always dreamed of playing ice or roller hockey for any team, but as an orthodox Jew going to Yeshiva in a modern-day Jewish ghetto, my dreams never materialized. My parents were against it too. (Actually my Dad was a massive hockey fan), so I was never really a prospect. However, once I was playing street hockey with a friend (I was, and still am, quite good at it). We were playing on his block (we were 14 years old), when we noticed this guy watching us play. We'd seen him come by to watch us practice a few times before, but hadn't thought much of it, but he finally came over to us and asked both of us if we'd like to try out for his team. I think it was an Atom AAA team, but I'm not sure. Turns out he was a coach who had been watching us play and was very impressed with our game. We'd have like 10 friends down there, and he only asked 2 of us :yo: . He also spoke to my friends younger brother, who was a smallish butterfly goalie with brilliant reflexes. He was amazing. He'd dominate pick-up games in the park with 20-25 year olds as a 9-year-old. By the way, he gave us his number and we never got back to him, being that we both left to out-of-town Yeshivas the enxt year.

What type of a hockey player were you ?

Originally a forward, but as the years went on I found I was always playing defence first, and was willing to throw my body around. I switched into a 2-way-defenceman role.

Highest level you played hockey at ?

As I said I was brought up in a very religious environment (and I'm still going through that), which unfortunately isn't exactly pro-sports of any kind. But there are two highlights.

1 - When I was in Yeshiva in London I would walk 1 hour once a week down to Alexandra Palace, where the Haringey Greyhounds ice hockey team would play. (They're like a division-3 British hockey team). I watched all the thursday night practices, and eventually got friendly with the coaches and some of the players. Well, one Thursday I was standing on the sidelines and some guy broke his stick and stormed off. Well, the team needed an extra player so the coach, who knew I was form Canada, asked me to play. Naturally I had no equipment so he got some skates and padding from the back rooms, borrowed a stick from someone, and put me on the ice. I was terrified and fell flat on my ass just seconds into the practice. But soon I started getting comfortable, and eventually we went for a scrimmage. I was sent on defence :D and scored one goal on a nice deke off a great pass from a team mate. We won 4-1 and I was sound both ways. The coach asked me to stay with the team, but I had to refuse, as it would conflict with my studies, and I'd be thrown out if the Yeshiva would find out.

2 - Last year in Sydney, Australia I would play pick-up roller-hockey every sunday. Well, I decided it's about time to join a league and live my dream, and went to check out the league to find out if I can play the upcoming season. Well, I came on a game day and spoke to the league manager. He said I couldnt play that season unless a team needed me, but I should try to join a team for the next season. Just as he finished, one of the pick-up regulars noticed me and asked me to join his team as they were down a man. So I played my first 'professional' game wearing a size too big skates and shooting with a righty stick (I shoot left). I played defence and scored 1 goal, but we lost 6-1. I returned the next week for the last game of the season, was put on offence and scored a hat-tirck as our team lost 7-4. Unfortunately the league closed down after that, and I haven't played any games since.

Got any hockey stats on yourself ?

Not really.

Hockey career highlights ?

1 - I once played pick-up hockey with Simon Gagne on the year of his draft. Anyway, we were on the same team, and I was put on offence (he was playing with his friends and I had happened to join). Well, I'm floating around the other net when he lets this wrist shot go from centre 'court'. Well, I saw it was going wide so I raced to the side of the net to try and stop it, and hopefully send it to a teammate, but my stick somehow connected with the puck, and I deflected the puck in. The guys all thought I was amazing. :D

2 - While playing with my friends in Yeshiva (I organized illegal Yeshiva hockey games in the basement, and the faculty never found out :p ), I was once placed with the worst goalie we had (I trained virtually all the players), and the two worst players we had. I was up against the best goalie I'd trained and the best two skaters. I was on fire... I scored 12 goals and 1 assist while playing defence... we won 13-0!!! Someone counted the number of shots I blocked that game... 32! And my goalie told me he had faced 8 easy shots.

3 - I organized an entire Jewish hockey league in Sydney and trained almost every player. One of the major highlights was seeing two players I'd trained selected to play on professional teams... in only 1 year of ever playing roller-hockey!!!

Never good enough to be a prospect.

Type: I was pretty good some years, never the best player on my team though. Always either had a rink in my backyard, or across the street. So I started skating young, and its always been my strongest suit, usually the fasted on my team. In tyke I got to try out goaltending for a game and loved it, and ended up playing goalie almost every game. Had off season reconstructive hip surgery(no joke) and missed AAA try outs, so played minor novice A, we won the our league(I got to play the winning game and had a shutout). Played the entire season with 3 pins holding my hip together. The 3 pins didn't work well, so had reconstructive hip surgery again this time with a metal rod holding it together. Went up to AAA and my team sucked and we got destroyed every game, worst hockey year of my life, and playing goalie was painful with my bad hip, again played the whole season with the metal rod in. Next year didn't even try out for a travel team, trying to take it easy on my bad hip. just played House until the house select coach asked me to join so I did, ended up winning House and select championships that year which was to me my last as a goalie. Lost some of my mobility from the surgeries and it hurt alot to play. The Next year I tried playing out, was the last cut from the atam A team. I was one of the fastest players there, with great defensive awareness from playing goalie. But I also had no hands at all, couldn't shot or stickle handle much although I could pass well, had great vision(from watching the game as goalie?) Played House as a defensemen, and turned out being a offensive one as I rushed the puck and did end to ends bobby orr style with my great speed. Could really fly without the goalie pads on. Ended up with alot of assists from the scoring chances my speed created, but couldn't finish on alot of plays. Had so much fun played both years of Peewee in House, going to the championship both years but losing em both, being maybe the best defensemen in the league. In minor bantam friends convinced me to try out for the A team, and made it. But I was nothing to special in A. I had good size in Peewee and could hit well, but stopped growing and with the jump in lvl was rather small. I was not the smallest, decent enough size actually just below average. I really took a pounding though in the corners, and my speed alone didn't make me a offensive threat, though was getting decent skills now. The next year I played bantam A again, this time as a speedy winger. Didn't grow again was getting smaller. Now I didn't have to go in the corners, and developed a european type style of play. I would compare myself to Jere Lenthien(spelling?) of dallas. Wasn't really physical but I now had some skills and could score, and still had the great defensive awareness. Was not the star player, more of a complimentary star player. The next few years I stayed pretty much the same type of player, and played in a young means league with 16-20 year olds all up and down the grand river(alot of big farm boys).

Highest lvl: AAA as a goalie

Stats: My last year of the youngs men league I played 29 games, scoring 19 goals, 34 assists, and 43 penalty minutes.

Highlights:

1. Playing in the winning game of Novice A championships, and playing great.

2. One year in peewee house, my team was entered into a select tournament my city hosted because a team didn't show up. And we ended up in the semil finals, and lost the game 3-2. But it was an amazing game, one of my best I would say. I was hitting people all over, scored and assisted on our goals. and in the last 10 seconds picked up the puck behind my net and went end to end only to hit the post with 1 second left(bad shot remember). The difference maker was the fact that we had 2 or 3 players that could barely skate, being a house team, and them as select teams didn't. And on each of there goals they exploited these players.

Right now, I have 2 points in 3 house league Midget games

So, as you can see, I am never going anywhere in hockey except the business end.

I am more of a set up man with grit. My passing is actually REALLY strong, and probably could rival some people playing Junior B. But factor me being lazy and my teammates not being able to accept my passes (a lot fans on the wide open chances I give them) I will never be close to a prospect.

I was a good prospect but very undersized, and that really hurt me the most.

What type of a hockey player were you ?
I was a goal scoring forward at 5'6". I skated better than pretty much everyone so i would use that to my advantage to throw a lot of open ice hits. I was a captain at every level i played at except college. I was more of a great assistant coach than anything elese.

Highest level you played hockey at ?

Played a year in college and got dropped by a 6'5" defenseman that was pretty much it.

Got any hockey stats on yourself ? Hockey career highlights ?

Career highlights senior year of high school had 48 goals in 26 games. 2 suspensions for fighting

Played Division 1 HS hockey on Long Island as a second line player averaging a point per game. I was a weak skater growing up but I loved to hit and play physical, especially in front of the net. I had decent size at 6'1'' 190 lbs. Took power skating classes with Laura Stam from 16-19 and because of her I made an NCAA Division 2 squad in the New England area. Never got to play much in college - everyone was faster and much bigger but the experience was a thrill in itself that I will never forget.

I gave up my dreams of playing hockey when I was 7 and took up Curling, and been doing that competitively for 14 years now.
Almost made it to the junior nationals 3 times.

I plan on making it to the big show one day :D

Highest Level: AA, and/or high school hockey, but played A hockey for most of my life. I now run an intramural hockey team in a university league (http://mooseheads.netfirms.com).

Player Type: I am captain do everything. In the past 5 years, I have played centre, wing, defense, and even goal for a year (and might I say, I was pretty damn good). I'm not overly gifted at anything, but I do most things well enough. My best asset would have to be passing.

Career Highlight: Getting 2min + 5min + 10min + 2 game misconduct for hitting someone (in a non-contact league; which accounts for 5 + 1 game misconduct), and calling the ref a "dork" (lol, yes, I called him a dork!!; which accounts for 2 + 10 + 1 game misconduct). It was really quite ridiculous.

Well, i wouldn't really consider myself a prospect.

What type of a hockey player were you ? Highest level you played hockey at ?
I am a playmaker that can still carry the puck and make the defenceman look foolish when i want to. I dont really have a good shot or anything but somehow i can usually put the puck into the net. The highest level of hockey ive ever played at was midget AA, but I ended up being cut cuz im too damn small.(I'm 14 and am only 5feet tall!!!!!)

Got any hockey stats on yourself ? Hockey career highlights ?

Ummmm, not really that I can think of off the top of my head.

well right now now im playing midget AAA, and i am currently protected by Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. though im flip flopping to play WHL or to play college like my brother currently is at colorado college tigers. i figure to go 3 or 4th round like my brother in nhl draft.

What type of a hockey player were you ? Highest level you played hockey at ?

well, im starting to mold into a defencemen after many years of playing forward and defence, all last year as a rookie in midget AAA i played forward and defence, never played one position all game. mister utility man :yo: im a offensive defencemen, and a power forward, played 2 years of beginners, scoring 99 goals in one year and 128 in teh second year. played one year of novice AA scoring 78 goals, and skipped the other year of novice to play atom AA. played three years of atom AA. then played bantam AAA for one year, then the new age rule came in and scrwewed me over, so i worked extra hard to make midget AAA when i shoudl still be in bantam. we went 31-4-0-2 in my rookie midget year last year, this year its diffrent story, we really yound and out to a tough 0-3-1 start.

Hockey career highlights ?
-won provincials 6 times, made it to provincails 7 times.
-won winter games in 2000
-got team playoff mvp last year in midget AAA, 5 points in 5 games on Defence.
- was in program of exxcellence for under 17.
- fought dan bertram in training camp(2005 top prospect), kicked the **** out of him lol, it was funny hes so lippy on the ice but great off the ice, were pretty good friends now.
Whats your name?

If I was a better skater, I would be pretty decent (meaning, Division II third line center in NCAA). I have a good wrist shot, and at 6'4" 220 pounds, I'm as physical as it gets at my level.

What type of a hockey player were you ? Highest level you played hockey at ?

I am currently playing Varsity Div III high school hockey. I play on our 2nd line (we only roll 2 lines most of the time, with a third line simply there if we need a breather). I play center, of the defensive variety.h

Got any hockey stats on yourself ? Hockey career highlights?
I have about 65 games and only 29 points. 8 goals and 21 assists. I however am +11 on a decent team. We won the county cup not long ago. Best career moment? Block a tough shot on a practically empty net and eventually on the same play got a goal from the blue line.

Hi guys, first post here!

Prospect: I`ve never been a prospect.

Highest level:I am currently playing junior A in Québec, which, over here is a big step below junior AAA, but we do not have any AA or BB over here, and some affiliated AAA players played with us this year. I have never played double letter hockey, But when I was in midget, I made the AA team once, but decided to play local hockey just for fun, because I did not have much playing time, I was sort of an agitator. Since then I`ve been playing in a scholar leage in high school, and in local hockey leagues.

highlight: well, when I was playing in high school, we were in the semi-finals, and with 5 minutes remaining the score was tied at 2, and I had scored both of my teams goals on one timers. one of my buddies got a penalty. we were really getting demolished during that power play. one of the defenders tried to shoot, but I blocked it with my pad and went on a breakaway. I pulled a sweet move on the glove side and scored the game winning goal. unfortunately, we got kicked out of the final 6 to none...

type of player: defensive forward, defensive defensemen, i`ve got good hands and I am a huge kid, unfortunately, hockey sense, can`t be tought...

funny thing: my mom, when she was 18 or something, dated with Frederick Cabana`s(2004 eligible) father, And i played a couple of times with his older brother, really nice guys.

I think someone should slap most of you back to reality. lol If someone who has no knowledge of the minor hockey system in North America read this thread, they'd think AAA was the lowest organized hockey level, whereas A would be the highest, by the looks of how many people play(ed) AAA.

But hey... if you guys get a high out of lying about yourself on the internet, who am I to say anything? ;)

I know... I was saying that AAA to A comparison due to the amount of people posting that they played AAA hockey as it would seem so common. It is very competitive, and VERY hard to get onto an AAA team here in Toronto (which is a minor hockey hot-bed). My dad has been coaching hockey for 17 years and has coached AAA for 7, so my opinion is not an uneducated one.

But seriously folks, you people need to snap out of your fantasies. For the kids who say they are (or have been) drafted into the OHL, QMJ, etc etc etc, post your real names and I'll check the draft lists that I have access to.

Were? This is my draft year! ;)

Seriously, I suck. I play in an U/21 league.

What type of a hockey player were you ? Highest level you played hockey at ?

I'm a physical defenseman, though have filled in at forward a couple of times. I've got good size (6'4", 190lbs) but could use some more bulk. I've got a really hard slapshot that causes goalies problems when I can actually get it on net. I always finish my checks and can give out some nice open ice hits as well. Skating is an issue, and I can't make a good breakout pass to save my life. I've only been playing for three years.

Got any hockey stats on yourself ? Hockey career highlights ?

Ehh, I've got some stats lying around in my room somewhere. I know I had 14 points (4+10) last year and lead my team in PIMs (about 70). Career highlight was last season when I had a goal, and assist and something like 26 PIMs. Gordie who? :hockey:

Well I would still be considered a very unknown prospect I guess seeing I would go in 05, and I havent played anywhere yet where people would notice me.

I would describe myself as a playmaking forward with fairly good vision for the ice and pretty good defensively. Average faceoffs percentage and I can put the puck in the net, but would think to pass first. My stats from playing midget last year in Saskatoon were 32g, 44a, 76pts, in 40 games played on a team with a record of 19-18-3 and finished 7th out of 15 teams. I was 16 playing on a team with 15,16,17 year olds and lead the team in scoring. I also play inline hockey and was captain of Team Saskatchewan for U-16 at the World Inline Cup last yeat held in Edmonton over the summer, even though we really sucked and didnt win a game. :shakehead
Career highlights, I would have no idea, maybe playing against Devin Setoguchi of the Saskatoon Blades (prospect in 05) in a tournament in peewee. And maybe aswell played on a team with Michael Kaye (Lethbridge WHL, prospect in 05) and playing against Chris Durand (Seattle WHL, prospect in 05) in peewee aswell. And maybe if you follow this but played on a team with Steven Dasilva, younger brother of Dan Dasilva who plays for Portland of the WHL, and he tied or lead the Saskatoon midget AAA league in scoring and will probably play for Kootenay next year. Thats about it.
