Good to see that nobody went off the reservation to be a contrarian and vote someone other than Howe #1.

No problem whatsoever with the order of the top 4. Nice to see Hull starting to lose his monopoly on #2, though he still got half.

Interesting spread for Jagr with almost nobody voting him #3.

23 of 24 voters is a strong start!

There was clearly more talk about Jagr and Richard in the thread, which might have contributed.

I remember saying in round 1 that Jagr 3rd made no sense at all. The arguments to propel him over Richard would necessarily propel him over Hull, in a somewhat less extreme fashion.

I expected Makarov, Lafleur and Cook to be a little closer one to another. Its also possible that the voters just didn't give a damn, considering how the Top-4 should have been, and was, obvious. I expect to see some swings in the next round.

Just asking... Is it wise to post the voting results? I mean, wouldn't it be better to not reveal how many points each candidate got?

After all, you do for each new voting list the candidates in alphabetical order, presumably to avoid bias..? Now going into the 2nd round, voters no how the five candidates left from the first voting knows how they did. (I hope you understand what I mean.)

No criticism, don't get angry at me for asking. Just curious.

Regarding the results, as expected there were different opinions on Makarov with three voters placing him last. (And of course the vote for Bossy as 4th stands out.)

wow with Jagr getting 5th and 6th place spots, even a peak guy would have to look at Jagr and his strong VsX or maybe not eh?

should be a very interesting 2nd round with some very strong new candidates no doubt.

Well I would say the first and obvious reason would be for the sake of transparency. To make sure that if their were any votes completely out of wack (eg. Jagr a couple 1st votes, or Hull a couple 5th or lower votes) it would be easier for us to find an error.

The 2nd I would say is for the interest of the voters? I was hoping they would be posted, just to see how close the votes where, who had the biggest range of votes (Bossy, apparently) and the like.

Withe the amount of discussion that will take place between the 5 guys that didn't make the top 4, I'd like to think that most will be open minded about the agruments made, and the ones that aren't probably made up their minds before these results anyways.

Withe the amount of discussion that will take place between the 5 guys that didn't make the top 4, I'd like to think that most will be open minded about the agruments made, and the ones that aren't probably made up their minds before these results anyways.

Yes, I agree. And I like seeing the results too.

As goes for openmindedness, I hope there will be lots of it.

There will be, I'm sure. The ones that are open to be swayed by the voting results of round 1, are likely going to be open to be swayed by the discussions of round 2.

Quick question as I wasn't able to follow the debate this round:

Was there much discussion of Hull vs Richard? I'm a bit surprise to see Bobby out ahead when, AFAIK, most sources contemporaneous to their careers had Rocket as better.

Hull over Richard has been somewhat canonized on hfboards, ever since the 2008 Top 100 players project, which focused heavily on Hull's strengths and Richard's weaknesses. Once something becomes canon to people, it is hard to get them to change their minds.

As for this project, Hull does have small but clear advantages in regular season stats and Hart voting, and both of those were emphasized

The 7/23 voters who had Richard under both Hull and Jagr seem to have been emphasizing regular season performance

While Bobby Hull sure was and is an icon, Maurice Richard was and is an even larger one. The latter also has the benefit of having been the best player of all time when at his peak, or at least the best forward. Hull always had Howe and why not Richard having come before him. That said, i voted Richard 2nd.

I am not sure how Richard ended between Hull and Jagr, because he is better than both of them in playoffs and worse than both of them in regular season. But ultimately it's a safe choice since people decided to play it safe. :)

I'm one of the guys who didn't have Makarov. Again thought he was a great player but not one of the top 8 wingers of all time.

I'm one of those guys and treat regular season as 75-80%ish of my 100% vote on any guy.

That being said I'm very interested to know how and what arguments there are for Jar behind either Bossy or Lafleur when the voting results come out.

Very cool to see results.

I think this is my first post on topic - i don't think i posted once in the original round 1 voting thread, but i was reading and following the discussions closely.

I do feel as though time removed may help Jagr. If this vote takes place 15years from now - even if he were to retire tomorrow with not a single extra NHL game played - I feel as though he would score a few more points.

Sometimes it can be a bit hard to compare legends to more current players.

Not meant as a criticism in anyway - I just think it's human nature to an extent.

I like the top 4 so far

Good to see that nobody went off the reservation to be a contrarian and vote someone other than Howe #1. No problem whatsoever with the order of the top 4. ...Interesting spread for Jagr with almost nobody voting him #3. 23 of 24 voters is a strong start!
Agreed with that and the top 5 voting results. This project is being very well and professionally run by TDMM, 70s, and HT18. Thank you, guys. The results have renewed my faith in the voters. This will probably be one of my last posts until the project is finished, because I trust the voters and organizers and just want to enjoy the final results. Have fun, guys! :)

I'm not really running anything this time. Just running my mouth (or I guess more accurately, my typing fingers).

And occasionally waving around a stick if people get too out of line. :naughty:

Surprised by the big gap between Jagr and Lafleur, though everyone else seemed to see it coming. Looks like Jagr's Army has landed.

Agreed. Thought the gap would happen after Lafleur.

Good to see Jagr moving up the ranks and make it above Lafleur. I expect he can move above Richard in the coming years as well.

That's what I expect too. Pretty solid list so far. I would have had Cook over Makarov, but I do underrate soviet stars.
