Yes there are several different levels and certification you need to coach in Canada. Also depends on what age group you intend on coaching and what level, i.e. - house league, Rep etc.
To start out you have your Coach Level 1 and they your Coach Level 2.
If you intend to coach at the Peewees level, you will need your Development 1, there is also Development 2.
For Bantam and above the Head coach will need his High Performance 1, there is also High Performance 2.
There are also more certification you would need as well.
- Body Checking (for Peewee and above)
- Respect in Sports
- Transgender Inclusiveness Training
- Police Record Check
I work with Explosives for my everyday job and I have far more certification and training to be able to go behind a hockey bench. It's insane, and they don't make it easy to essentially volunteer your time.
