I need something to quench my hockey thirst in the dog days of summer.

I don't know if there will be any interest in this or not, but CapFriendly has a pretty cool Armchair GM tool: https://capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/

You can create a team, and put any lineup out there that you want. If enough people do it, we could make a bracket and see who's team comes out on top!

I want to see what people come up with. Whether it be the best possible lineup you can put together, or an experimental roster of British Columbia born players who were born on a Tuesday.

Haha, I noticed this was the last year you can get McDavid at that <$1mil salary.

It would actually be fun to do an armchair GM league of sorts. So longevity would come in to play. Drafts, trades, contracts, etc.

It's more interesting when you restrict the number of ELC contracts to just a couple, otherwise there are a handful of players that are just auto-includes.

Gotta max out on all those guys on ELCs. McDavid, Matthews, Eichel, Marner, Nylander, etc. I'm actually surprised you didn't have McDonagh on your NCAA team. Low cap hit for a #1D.

No idea how that would work but I'd be down to participate :yo:

I'm pretty sure there are some of the team boards here that do leagues like this. I might poke around and just take a look at the structure and how they run it.

edit: whoaaaa man I just found the Flames' board where they do this and wow does it look like a lot of work

I might try to make a roster with a limit of like 2 ELC's this afternoon if I'm bored at work though.

If you want to see some in-depth stuff look at the https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/gm-game section of the site. I didn't have the time or desire to be a part of that game.

The mods for the site are pretty cool. If you have questions they can help you setup what you're looking for. Most of the "best team formats" limit the ELC's to 3 max otherwise the teams all look the same.

Shockingly good team, and very few ELC's (seems like cheating when people use a ton of those). Those forwards could go out against anybody and win, and the defense is both solid defensively and great offensively. The only issue is that goaltending could be... sketchy. When Elliott is on, he's darn good, but man, I wouldn't expect him to be on all season, and Stalock is a guy I like, but he's also shown inconsistency in the past. Still, I'd take that team over the current Wild roster any day. Well made roster, sir.

I was playing around and came up with this for next year:
Cap hit: $70.3m + $3.8m in possible bonuses.
Dumba signed for $5.5m

Trades (not 100% even because I dislike dealing with draft picks to even things out):

EDM/Wild:
Poolpart/Larsson for Zucker/Spurgeon

CGY/Wild:
Bennett/Lazar for Coyle

NJD/Wild (total flyer on this one):
Santini/Olofsson

Nino/Staal/Poolparty
Parise/Koivu/Granny
Bennett/JEE/Kunin
Foligno/Greenway/Lazar
Ennis

Suter/Dumba
Brodin/Larsson
Seeler/Santini
Prosser

Dub/Stalock

It leaves some cap space to sign a couple of bottom-6 players if Kunin/Greenway end up in the AHL.

Probably had to lean on too many ELC's, but whatever.

He's a great player, but Kane's $10.5M is a dagger.

Wow, that O'Reilly threw me for a hard loop for a second there.

I don't hate it. The right side of our defense is pretty spotty, but maybe Murphy or Belpedio will step up. We'll just have to hope we grab about 4 more Lodnia's out of the third round this year.

No joke, aside from Carlson, Folin was the best RHD on the market. 3 x $2.5 might not even be enough.

Yikes... I'd almost rather just risk Murphy in that spot. Still, getting some sort of stop-gap RD for 2-3 years shouldn't be that hard.

Edit: To clarify - no problem with Folin at $2.5m for 3 years. Moderate problem with jumping into a UFA RD market where Folin is #2 on the list.
